Japanese Garden

The weird “fruit” that looks like a dead stick – Japanese Raisin Tree

Japanese raisin fruits are such a weird fruit but they taste delicious like raisins and dates, so yum! They grow on a tree called Hovenia dulcis or Japanese raisin tree. It can handle some failry cold climates too and are great in food forests and edible gardens.

This is the Japanese raisin fruit very very unusual not very appetizing looking they’re actually not a true fruit they’re a swollen recepticle or a swollen flow stalk this is the flower stalk and this is the part you eat over here there’s also these little green

Dots that are attached to the end of it and these are I guess what you’d call the fruit because the seeds are inside there but you don’t eat that part at all you just eat these swollen flow stalks it’s very surprisingly sweet considering it’s just like like a dried up old piece

Of stick tastes just like a raisin it really does and I’d almost compare it like a mixture of Raisin and dates it’s just super interesting in such a novel type of I guess fruit and I’ve heard that people do use these as an alternative to like raisins or other

Dried fruit so you know lots of uses for them

  1. Have you ever considered selling some of your more exotic vegetables or fruits to a Chef?

I bet a Michelin Star Chef would love to use some of those products of yours in high profile meals (you know the ones where it's all about taste and meal composition, not about quantity)
