  2. Happy New Year! Can you tell me about anything that could replace vermiculite? I know people say it no longer contains asbestos. I have read that both remaining usa mines do contain traces of asbestos and that causes cancer so I want to leave that out if possible. Thanks.

  3. Hi Gary! Thanks for the tour. What about growing a medicinal herb garden in that one area that is off of the main garden? The great thing with herbs is they don’t need too much attention and the benefits they bring to our health is just amazing. Golden Rod, oregano, rhodiola, holy basil, ginger, garlic, rosemary etc

  4. Happy New Year to you too! Congrats on the new book. Kim from Square Foot Gardening 4 U (my 2nd book is coming out in April). I just put your book on hold at my local library. While I'm there I'll ask them to carry your new one.

  5. Happy New Year Gary!!! I'm still tryna rearrange the garden and lay down cardboard where I want new beds to go since its still kinda warm here in MD.

  6. Loving the tour! Happy New Year to you and thanks for the inspiration.
Great advice on the zucchini refresh. I had been considering that. Nice to hear from an expert that it is a good idea.

My new village garden is taking shape. It was an adjustment after living on ten acres, but I am really enjoying the challenge of being creative in a limited space.
The aim for this year is to make optimum use of the various protected spaces. The large but unheated greenhouse, a table planter that is perfect for covering with remay, the indoor grow lights. Every year I swear I will make a good plan, every year I just want a break from even thinking about growing between Halloween and Imbolc AKA Groundhog Day. Elliott Coleman calls that dark heart of the year the Persephone months. This year the garden obsession, though not as strong as in spring, remained. I think my guiding angels are kicking my butt. Times are tough and not likely to get better soon. I often wonder what I can do about the state of the world, given my circumstances and abilities.
The answer is: grow some food and encourage others to do likewise. Not only is gardening productive, the activity brings people together across boundaries of identity and ideology.

At 80, with a wonky hip, I will need to hire help occasionally. The aim is o earn enough with the sale of bedding plants to pay for the help.
Better start planning……Thanks for all you do. I keep learning.

  7. Happy New Year 🎆 🎉❤ to you too! Your channel really helps and I just copied you indoor lighting exactly two years ago and it really worked! Best wishes to you and your channel! Thanks again 😊

  8. What a lot of possibilities with all your land. Loved your tour of the property. We have much the same. We have been on five acres in Custer WA. Happy gardening 2024!

  9. @therustedgarden I really enjoy your videos and way of explaining things. I am in zone 5 Iowa and am slowly creating an edible, self sustainable backyard. Your first book has been so beneficial in this. I look forward to many more videos and harvests.
