There are few memories more meaningful than those around the dinner table especially Christmas dinner there’s one final flourish to add to your table that will set the tone for any Gathering you can set up a pretty floral centerpiece for Christmas dinner we’re taking notes from a talented floral designer today
Friend of the show Bren Larson joins me with the inspiration I just want to sit here with you your lovely company in this beautiful loveliness I could use all the adjectives and this is Christmas this is so stunning isn’t it so fun it’s like while I was doing it I’m like this
Is like so retro and so like vintagey like let’s just lean into it I felt like I was like channeling my great grandma Grace it was like so her era so I wore her sweater today look at you ret so retro in what way BR what you so like a
Couple things are making big comebacks do you remember the topiaries oh yes the topiaries they’re coming back they’re back baby they’re coming back okay so we’ll we’ll embrace it yes yes in a different way yes color scheme is traditional color scheme absolutely color scheme I love the richness of it
Just like the extraness just loaded we’ve SE been doing lots of greenery so I wanted to come fully just like Bloom to bloom lushness okay um so we can we can start there about let’s start with the topiary Define this for us and tell us how the modern day lens is viewing it
Sure so I think we remember like the tree topiaries the sunflower topiaries they had like a big moment in weddings right they’re coming back fully loaded lots of fruit ribbons we know bows are having a moment so let’s put a bow on everything this hydrangea one is my like Christmas
Creature yesterday I was like it’s kind of a creature but it just is like Lush full like I was thinking like Marie antoinet let them eat cake just like opulent everything toally and with the topiary you’re keeping it monochrome you’re keeping the color palette uniform monochromatic I think we’ve seen them
With like cranberries right Cranberries or Greenery um this one is carnations so this is kind of a retro that with the rich Reds and burgundies that is beautiful and the bows and the bows put a bow on it velvet bows absolutely carnations are really long lasting too
So I just used hot glue you can totally do this at home the day before the party get a couple packs of carnations I just trimmed them short and hot glued them right on the form do you mind spinning and showing your mechanics I have a okay
Right here Yep this is it so this is what you’re using as the base a styrofoam base and I started at the bottom and worked my way to the top so you can find those at craft stores you can find them at Michael does the volume
Decrease as you get closer to the top yes and buy more flowers than you think you’re going to need it’s going to take a lot okay all right and the roses are you these are my favorite red roses they’re called Hearts roses they’re big they’re fluffy I think roses get a bad
Wrap cuz you see them at the grocery store and they never open they’re little they look a little sad sometimes they’re sad so with the right Rose opened up you you can make just a lush really gorgeous Rich beautiful topiary and do we call this a topiary too absolutely look at
This hey do you remember Spanish moss I mean yeah kind of it was like you know it was kind of a no no in the shop for a while all right it was a it was but it’s coming back too I’m seen it on Christmas wreaths um Arrangements the topiaries
These you could make and they would last forever I mean lettu us remember you’re the girl who taught us to see a tumble weed in all new eyes with a can of spray paint so remember when I was anti bow remember I was like no bows they’re everywhere now look at us growing
Evolving keeping up with all of it and just how the Simplicity of this though I think is something to admire I love that and I love the pop of metallic like a little extra um I love how it pops off this one same thing styrofoam base and
Then I just used wire and made like little hair pins to just pin it in super easy now the topiary shape naturally lends itself to Christmas the shape of the tree do you see this extending into spring weddings I hope so how fun I hope so I hope like big Buffet tables with
Food and I was going to say the vertical space fill is kind of a nice option to flex for an event or a wedding absolutely I hope I get to along the Retro Road we’re stopping at poetas poinas okay I have been trying to figure out how to get them in fresh flower
Arrangements because they’re really wilty like if you cut them it’s hard to keep them up yes so we learned a little trick this week so that we can use fresh poinsettas somebody clipped them ear I think it was last week or earlier this week on the show for part of a table
Setting and I kind of flinch for that very reason like can we do that are we allowed to do that this is the key what we are going to burn the bottom what does that do so when you cut it there’s like a Milky sap that comes out you want
To burn this until the sap stops bubbling and it’s totally burned on the end oh so then once it’s burned you can just put it right in the water and it will last for your center pieces we were very excited because I love these like peachy pink poinsettas yes and I love
Citrus at Christmas so pairing the Citrus with kind of these different colored poinsettas was so fun so retro the way you’ve done it with the red too it’s kind of a fun new way to look at it because we’re used to the poinset being
So Lush and so full to see it broken up you can pay closer attention to the daintiness and the delicate nature of the shape like the shape of the leaf itself the the what actual is really fun to admire so easy that you could do at home right you can
Get isix berries I’ve seen them at Trader Joe’s we have them in the shop if you have some bud vases that you want to just put down the center of the table you know you might even need one or two poinsettas to make a full table look
Really pretty now this is so funny I mean funny is the word I’ll reach for only because we are just chatting with style and Beauty contributor mean Moore about the trends for beauty and it’s so funny how when a trend comes in strong it affects every lifestyle you know
Corner from the home to Beauty she was talking pearls you’re talking pearls we’ve got pearls and last night I was putting all these pearls in the fruit and I’m like is this insane I love it when did you ever think you would say I’m putting pearls in fruits right
Absolutely I’m normally a pearl girl but I guess I am now pears Grace would Grandma Grace definitely let’s Channel her okay so you get um I just have some Boer pins and they’re just going in the arrang and they’re just going straight in the fruit and pears are great cuz
They’re pretty soft you know so you can just whatever little design you want to do you just the pair has a necklace it does may I AB the pair is now be jeweled the hair is accessorized that is so silly and simple but it’s adorable fun I
Love them we made one with like a bow on it with the pearls so all the trends are colliding the bows the pearls all of it absolutely but it’s a fun way to just add those extra details to your table that I think make a big difference when
Somebody comes to your house to sit down for dinner and maybe they have one of those at their play setting it’s just thought about it’s the extra thing that makes it just decadent and special you’re right the thoughtfulness is decadent I love that word we should say
It more and I think the fact that you flexed just a little something extra for this moment at the table for this moment when you’re Gathering um speaks to the spirit of the season of giving and of loveliness thank you so much thank you busy right now the shop is busy keep
Busy we’ve been keeping you busy can people still get orders in yeah absolutely you can find us at blooms and& company either in the shop or online okay blooms and Company we’ll link you over from our website Merry Christmas thank you so much beautiful arrangements to look at and fun Trends
