Today is tulip planting day I am so excited we actually did start planting spring buls already in the little Woodland area with the mix of Silas and narciss ey I think it’s going to be striking and we also created a new border with some grasses and aliums but

Right now I want to focus on containers last night we had our first Frost so it’s all clear to plant tulips also looking at the forecast it looks like temperatures are going to stay below 10ยฐ and that’s going to be great to reduce the risk of chili fire which if your

Tulips catch it you’re not going to have blooms the foliage is going to die off and most importantly it stays in the ground for up to 3 years we don’t want that so today I want to plant containers I have a little grouping near the Flower

Shed that we can see from the house with metal Planters it’s going to be very pretty I also want to plant containers for the Terrace well right now I don’t know if you can see behind me but we set up this beautiful Christmas display so we’re going to just plant the containers

And then put them into place come spring when they’re flowering so by the way if you missed the Christmas makeover go check it out it was so much fun and I also give you lots of ideas for plants that would make for great winter interest and the third thing I want to

Do is the little shelf a moment every year I like to put up some smaller bulbs in smaller containers so that they can all be grouped in a shelf and that makes for a really striking display we have a lot to do so let’s get started I actually already started tripping a

Little bit the area of course I had to clean it from leaves which is nearly a daily Occurrence at this time of year there are oak trees in the neighboring garden and they provide a wonderful shade and structure but of course they drop a lot of leaves so cleaning is

Something that I have to do very regularly so I actually already started planting up the area in three metal containers I wanted to reuse some bulbs from last year that I lifted I stored and I’m hoping they’re going to bloom again I’ve done this with narcissist

Because I think they will will give me the best chance at giving me another set of blooms in Year too something that’s really important when you’re planting spring bulbs and actually any plant is drainage so the first thing I did on the containers is create some drainage well

For metal it’s a little bit difficult because you need to drill with a small hole and then get the hole bigger but we managed and we have good drainage and I planted those with an absolute surprise it’s a mix of whatever I grew last year but I just put everything in a container

So it’s going to be jumbl and it’s going to be a mix so we’ll see how it turns out next I want to add this physocarpus over here this is desidia so sadly it’s going to lose its foliage over winter but next year we should have a brand new

Fresh growth of this beautiful deep wine collar and then it should also produce flowers in June and July and then berries over the Autumn so I’m really excited to try this I love that it’s going to bring some more red into the garden and I’m thinking over here would

Be a really lovely interest until you know it drops its sleeves something else that is very important for your spring bulbs and your plants that are in containers and general is to raise them off the ground to make sure they don’t get water loged so typically you can use

Pot feeds or you can place a brick under the containers anything just to raise them up so that the water can drain freely and the soil has a chance to dry up which Lees us with the main event the teen B planter the really big centerpiece where we’re going to add

Nearly 200 bulbs I think it’s going to be absolutely striking let’s do the plant Top there are two ways you could go about your display either you want everything to Bloom together so you have the exact color combination that you want or you want sucession planting so one houra gives you beautiful blooms for longer so here I chose TPS that bloom

From April all the way to May so we should have some really beautiful color still in May the first step if you have some is to sprinkle some bulb starter fertilizer that’s really going to help you get a really good bul show here I’m just using some regular fertilizer which

I’m hoping is still going to help actually if it’s your first time planting toilets I published a lot of planting videos and planting advice with the most asked questions and everything you need to know to be successful but really the basics is pointy side up and plant it about 10 cm Deep [Laughter] Okay so this is the situation here we had a like stroia that you know dropped his leaves so we need to repot that and use the container these roll R terracotta pots I think they’re really beautiful I love using them also going to repot these VI burum was looking

Beautiful this season but right now it’s become foods for birds and we still need to apply another treatment for the iron Deficiency I’m thinking in these it would be very pretty to have the beautiful amam shrubs that we’ve been using in Fall containers and surround them with some tulips in warm tones so that we would have the beautiful yellow of the amam flowers come February that would be followed by

A similar tone in Spring bulb so I think I want to pot these two little amas in some slightly bigger containers and we’re going to pop the TPS around I think that’s going to be absolutely striking I have a specific type of tulip here that has multiple blooms per stem

I’ve never grown these before they’re gregy tulips and this is a variety called kibic and it looks like they have at least three blooms you know per bul that’s going to be incredible and I thought they would be really lovely paired with this tilp American Dream which apparently changes color as it a When I bought these containers I thought they would be incredible with some ense because I really like to match the height of the bulbs that I’m planting to the height of the container and I got this really beautiful mix from Little actually with Gypsy queen that beautiful peach color gypsy princess that’s a

Creamy yellow really P yellow and Woodstock that cuts through those colors with a deep purple and I think this is going to be a brilliant combo here the lighter ones are going to be the yellow these darker ones are going to be Woodstock and I think these are a Gypsy Queen These are my favorite chili variety that I’ve grown in the past couple of years it’s TPA vanik bad stage is wonderful and you can start to see the color pecking throughout the top their color intensifies as they age they last a very long time they have large blooms the

Stem stay upright they are wonderful and I have about 60 bulbs today I don’t think these containers are going to be enough but we’ll See so my idea here is to swap things around and put that little shelf over here filled with spring bulbs and we’re going to be able to enjoy it and right now I’m not really growing anything and actually I have a bunch of neglected seedlings here that I

Need to tidy away so I want to put this little Greenhouse over there and we can plant up this gorgeous little Shelf [Applause] [Applause] Oh these are all the goodies we have to pick from some wonderful small daffodils some iin more daffodils I think this is going to be very pretty with a mix of Blues yellows and whites very peaceful I really come to love the look of one type of bub per

Container but I was thinking it might be really nice and feel really Lush to come bind several blooms together into those bigger jardiner so I’m thinking we’re going to do this together because they’re going to be on top and the bottom so we need repeating interest we’re going to start with some wonderful

Eyin in the center which is going to act as our centerpiece and then we’ll fill up with this gorgeous mix of narcissist tet and some miscar and then a second type of mcar to give a bit more depth what are you doing doing what are you doing my Pur Oops If you want to know more about bulb planting and how to protect your bulbs how to make your blooms last longer how to get ideas and inspiration for designs I’ll leave some videos link for you in the description so you can continue to find inspiration thanks for watching

This video I hope it was relaxing to plant balls with me and that if you haven’t done so already it gives you plenty of idea and inspiration to bring some spring color into your garden you still still have a lot of time to plant throughout December and at the very

Beginning of January for a bloom show this same year and at this time of year sale is on on all spring buls normally so you should be able to find at Garden Centers at grocery stores or online spring Bob that are discounted and that’s always good you know to save a

Little bit on everything we add on the garden thanks again for watching I’ll see you next time bye don’t forget to label to remember what what I don’t have many this year that it’s going to be fine but definitely label if you Can SBA what are you doing what are you doing my Pur
