  1. Thank you for all the wonderful gardening videos.
I've been gardening for about 60 years. I'm in lower NY, zone 7A (about to be 7B). Born and raised near Burlington (Colchester) VT. My mother was a gardener, mostly flowers, and a small vegetable garden. As a little boy, it was my job to shovel the s*it. my father would drive raound to the dairy farms and horse farms. We'd fill the truck up with 1/2 cow and 1/2 horse manure. I don't do that anymore because I can't control what the animals eat. I do collect truckloads of leaves in the fall. I shred them and use as mulch in the garden and compost the rest. Worms can eat 4" of mulch in July and 4" in August!

  2. Brian, I am curious about one thing. I see that you use a lot of store-bought potting soil and but I never see you using your own compost. Perhaps there is a very good reason that you might want to share with me and people like me.

  3. I am in Hardiness zone 7a, which changed from the 2012 status of 7b, in 2023.

I've had some gardens a year here and there, but mostly I would just raise a few Toms and a few Jalapenos, Cayenne, and Habanero.
I am hoping to build another raised bed this year and also use all of my 10 – 12, 12" cloth pots! Last year, my 4' X 8' planting area was a 16" high using 8x8x16 concrete blocks. It contained Roma, Amish Paste, Cherokee, and Early Girl toms – Jalapeno and Habanero peppers – using a type of shepherd hooks and netting I ran cucumbers from one end and green beans from the opposite end over the toms and peppers. For the base, I had Peppermint, Basil, Chives, Dill and other badbug repellant spice plants.

I would like to add squash, watermelon, poblano and more this year.

  4. Can’t wait for this series. I took a break from the garden last year, so I’m looking forward to this season.

  5. I’ve been gardening since 2018. But I have no idea where my seeds are since moving 😂 but I have a few bags of new ones. And have enjoyed shopping for some more.

  6. Anxious to start my seeds, but dilema. Question: I am currently using my grow light for my lemon and lime plants. (Viparspectra) Best type light for me would be a stand light so can place 3 citrus plants under. Problem: Finding adequate light without spending 100's of dollar. Any suggestions??? Thank you!!!! Zone 5. Gardening consistently for 7 yrs and loving it. Great therapy!

  7. Gardening on and off for years. So true… always a pleasure to grow…. except those itchy bugs..
I started onion seed this week.

  8. I live in South Central Georgia (Midland). I live on 6 acres in the country and I have been gardening for 30 years. My favorite vegetables are tomatoes. I can grow everything BUT tomatoes:/

  9. 2 seasons so far! Will start 3rd in March/late Feb… Urban setting in the Northeast. Zone 7b! 🙂

  10. I was disappointed to see you mention Baker Creek. They are such a horrible company and so unethical. Yes, they have a wide variety but much of that came from bad practices or even theft. They've promoted and sponsored some horrible people as well. Please promote better companies in the future. You listed some great family run and better compaines, stick with them.

  11. This will be my second year in a barren rock-filled lot, so I'm strictly growing in containers. Zone 6A
I have been gardening for 50+/- years
