Hi everyone welcome to the second episode of my making Journey my name is Kata and I am filming from Balo today is February 1st and I wanted to summarize my makes of January I can’t believe it’s already gone by um it’s amazing how time flies um I haven’t been
As prolific as I wanted but I was able to work on everything I wanted to work on and so I’m really happy about that um and I’ll just hop right into it I’m going to show you what I made what I was able to make this month or last month
And then go on to tell you what my plans are for February so the first thing I wanted to show you is this sweater I did not make this this is this is a very special thing um my mother-in-law started this in the80s for my husband for Johnny and and she hadn’t finished
It she had only the two the front and the back um here’s a picture and um a part of the sleeve so all I did was basically just finish what she had started I left everything as it was um if there was a little hole that uh
Appeared because of moths I fixed it I didn’t undo anything I wanted this sweater to be made by her for my baby um 30 years ahead of time which I think is really really cool um and I basically interpreted what she wanted to do I fixed on the inside all these little
Bobles which were a little bit loose and then all I did was finish the sleeves she had already started a sleeve so I basically finished it copied the other one and then decided to do a boat neck um she had a different neck but it was
Really tight and I decided a boat neck would be easy and any head would be able to fit in it one thing that’s really cool about this is the tag of the yarn which is right here I love it I don’t know what I’m going to do with it I
Generally don’t hold on to stuff uh hold on to stuff for very long but I just think it’s so cool so80s so I wanted to show you that the second thing I did this month was the houseon SW sweater I had undone my petite knit um anchor summer shirt
Which I had turned into a sweater anyway but I like a winter sweater um but I didn’t like it I didn’t I think it’s a very thick cotton and I’m not 100% like sure about this one but I have a feeling I will be using it a lot cuz I I like
Baggy summery stuff so here it is and I’ll tell you more about it um in the footage coming up but before that I wanted to show you a little bit about where I was working on the sweater this is Santo Domingo about an hour and a
Half south of valaro where I went to see my parents and my mom’s beautiful garden if you don’t like flowers skip to minute 4 All right so it’s pretty much finished I still have to I still have to weave in the ends and finish the neck I’m not sure how I’m going to finish the neck if I’m going to follow the pattern and actually do a border on it or if I will leave it
Open it’ll depend on what happens after blocking so here we go so it looks pretty good I still have to block it and with blocking it’ll the lace should come alive a little bit more but it’s looking pretty good and this is what the neck is like
It’s a little bit wide for my taste I’m wondering if it’ll stretch out too much with the blocking so we’ll see I’ll probably make a neck on it probably finish the neck all right so dude has been soaking for a little bit I am now going to take it out and block
ET we’ll see how it turns out so I’m back in BYO back at the guest house I’m on the third floor there’s nobody here today um so I should have a nice warm space for the sweater to finish blocking I just got it out of the bath um and Max
Is with Johnny so I have a little bit of time to be able to stretch it out um and hopefully have it ready by tomorrow which is the 31st of January And this is my third make of the month the houseon sweater I am not 100% sure what I’m going to do with the neck right now it is unfinished I kind of like it this way uh but I’ll see how the the sweater responds to wear um the the
Cotton 24/7 cotton is a little bit bulky but I like it better than what I had and this one I will definitely wear it’s super comfortable nice and with lots of ease as well great for summer I love the color super fast knit I ended up knitting all the stitches instead of
Pearling them as the as the um the pattern uh suggests or calls for um and it just works out better for me I prefer I’m more of a Knitter than a pearler so all I did was turn it inside out when it was Done last but not least I had made my tape Romper which was my very first project this summer and um it just didn’t come come out right I I made it I was it I I chose the right size but it was huge the the
Eases was just too much for my taste um it affected the way the hemline was cut uh well I never cut it but it was it affected the hemline um it just it just didn’t fit right it was really loose at the top so I will show you how far along
I got I have a lot of footage on that because I worked on it in the last couple days and so here it is so if you saw my first video you’ll know that the first thing I made was the Tate Romper here it is of course um you also
Probably saw that it is a couple sizes too large um and I have to redo it basically so I’m going to the only problem is I did not do this with a home machine I mixed it with my overlock or my overlocker my serger um just to make it more sturdy Etc
So I am going to have to undo all of that um and if you sew you know that ripping out overlocker or serger is really slow can be really slow it’s really just tedious in comparison to the sewing that a home um machine does so uh
I’m going to show you a way to cut some corners and uh undo the Serger sewing a little bit quicker um and then I will hopefully finish it by tomorrow the 31st of January all right so overlock has a right side and a wrong side this is the right side where you
Can see the uh straight threads of the needles that go on the top and this is the back side where you can just see what happens at the back at the bottom of the overlock machine so the easiest you can actually just pick all of this
Off and sort of randomly try to take it out but it it can take a long time so in order to save a little bit of time here’s a technique that I learned a while ago you go to the middle thread and you’re going to pick that
Up not the cloth but the actual thread here we go and then you’re going to pull on it depending on the type of fabric you have this will be easier or more difficult so I pulled that one out on this side we can continue pulling the other way as
Well but anyway for the purpose of this video I’ll just do that part and then you do the same with the second thread the outer thread you cut it you pull on it as much as the fabric and your materials allow sometimes it gets tight for some reason but here we
Go there we go we’re going to pull it out and start start pulling it as much as we can there we go we pulled it out and now what’s left just unravels really easily so that’s going to save you some time I know it’ll save me some time I
Have to unravel the whole freaking thing I mean not unravel uh rip the seam of the whole freaking Romper so wish me luck I’m hoping to have this ready by tomorrow we’ll See it’s 11:00 p.m. um this is taken a lot longer than I thought cuz Max isn’t feeling very well tonight he’s just waking up a lot um so anyway I have taken everything apart um and I just ironed everything and I want to make sure I go to bed with
Everything all the pieces cut and ready to go so I can just sew them tomorrow um so I just have to H trim and resize everything um and I should be ready to go to bed in about half an hour hi everyone so it is the 31st I just
Checked my sweater and it’s still a little bit wet so I left it with two big um fans it’s been been a long night and a long morning um max is down it’s 2:00 p.m. and I am about to redo the tape Romper um so I have both my machines out
In the one room where things might fit and I hope that I can do this but before he wakes up one can wish and one can hope all right wish me Lu all right so I successfully um was able to under Stitch all the straps uh on the back side and I’m
Hoping that that will be enough to keep them in place um and now I need to narrow this um I I’m a size eight according to the Chart the sizing chart but it’s way too big for me so I think I need to take out almost about an in what
Was happening was that because it’s so loose up here it was making the sides of the Romper go down and so the the bottom hem was just off it was like diagonal like that um so I’m going to make sure that it sits better now but for that
This needs to be I want it to be quite not like super snug but pretty close to the body and I need to make sure that whatever I take out considers the zip zipper so that this doesn’t sit funky like that for example so wish me luck so
It’s 600 p.m. and I have I am at sewing the sides so I already um put the pockets in place son of a musician so the pockets are in place I have under stitched them and um now I’m going to do side seams of the pants and
Then all I have left is to attach that to the top and add the zipper so I think I’ll be able to wear this tomorrow I have about 3 and 1/2 hours before we shut down for the night um and I hope I don’t have to sew after that because I
Am running out of sunlight as you can tell um and then I checked my sweater is done it’s already it’s already dry so I’m going to try it on later um and decide if I want to finish the neck or not um but it’s looking pretty good so I
Will show it to you guys later in the meantime we shall sew hi again so I have successfully um done the seam on the sides with the regular sewing machine and now I am going to uh use the serger all around to make sure that it’s nice and
Firm it is 8:30 we had a few issues with little boss he wasn’t going down um but he’s been sleeping for the last half an hour without any issues so let’s hope that I can make it before 10:30 okay so here it is pockets are in all the seams have been overlocked or
Surged and now I am going to be doing a double basting stitch which is what the pattern calls for to attach the top part I’m hoping will fit like a glove it is 10:45 47 and some things happened in between I wasn’t able to I had to tend to some
Things so I wasn’t able to finish by 10:30 but we are hoping the new time is now midnight great time if you’re a mom because who needs to sleep um little boss has not yet woken up for his last bottle of the day so I’m
Hoping that I will be able to sew the bottom and the top I pinned it I tried it on it feels okay so I hope it’ll be okay so now I’m going to sew it take the basting try it on then take the basting stitches off and then all I have left is
The zipper and the I’m so tired I don’t even know what the bottom part is called anymore laast anyway you understand what I’m trying to say okay I’m turning the pants and I remembered the word is HEM all right so it’s actually looking pretty good it feels really good it’s not writing up
The seam is really close to the border so I think I’ll overlock it and bring this up just about half a centimeter or a third of an inch um the Hem on the bottom I Johnny usually helps me do that so I’m going to wait for that for tomorrow and I’m going
To try to do the zipper today um before midnight I have about an hour to go it feels really good much better than before in terms of this area it’s still a little loose but I think a good amount So I’m exhausted but I’m feeling good about it good morning or good afternoon it has been a long long night I still have last night’s hair uh Max had a really hard night it is 12 I don’t know what time it is at this point afternoon of the 1 I did not um
Achieve my goal of getting everything done by the 31st but that’s okay I only have to finish a couple of things um that I described yesterday so I’m going to do it now but it’s crazy in here right Bubba um my husband took Max for a
Few hours this morning so I could sleep because I only got 2 hours of sleep last night we changed formulas for Max and it just didn’t sit well with him and he had a tummy ache and it was rough so uh I slept until about an hour ago
And now I’m up and I really want to wear this Romper today so I am determined to finish it before we in before I even shower all right so this is the tape Romper the second one I made um I really like how it turned out it fits much
Better around the bust it actually is is pretty close to the body as opposed to the first one which was about 3 and 1/2 in um more of ease um it was just too too wide it was so wide that it was affecting the Hem um just making it kind
Of wonky and lopsided so so I’m really happy with how it turned out I did I overlocked much better the details are just um better all around so here it Is So for this month I have a couple of things that are fun and some that are not so fun I have a whole bunch of clothes that I need to fix I don’t H have a lot of stuff I actually have accumulated things from a long time ago
I have some stuff from the year I met Johnny um that needs to be fixed stuff that I really love um so I’m going to dedicate February to fixing things I want to make a couple of tote bags um and so I’m going to have to get some
Fabric for that I know I had said I would only use my stuff but there’s certain things that I can’t make unless I get Fabrics so I want to gift a tote bag to my sister so I already know what I’m going to I’m going to use and then
Um I want to finish my pattern I have a pattern the the uh dots and lines cowl it’s called um it’s a really quick easy way to get rid of a stash of stuff you have in your stash um it’s in Spanish it was um tested and edited and uh
Published in a in a Chilean online magazine and but I have yet to publish the English version which was already tested thank you Stephen and Ava and um for helping me do that so now I just have to finish uh writing it and just you know doing the diagrams and things
Like that so I can publish it finally hopefully this month so those are the goals I also want to start another um project another knitting project I know that I’m not going to be able to finish it in a month I just with Max it’s just really
Hard to knit as much as I used to and even to sew it’s just really hard to to do things if you’re a mom of a baby or were a baby you know a kid that’s older but you remember what you did to be able to survive this time apart from being my
Hero please give me your tips below I would love to read them and see what works and so yeah apart from that um I don’t have any other goals oh yes I would like to make a summer dress so we’ll see how far along I get um first
Month was okay even though I technically didn’t finish during the month of January but I’m pretty proud of myself um I’m counting the tape Romper as two since I had to completely redo it but it fits so much better so I’m really excited about that um I hope you liked
The video if you do please subscribe to my channel I would really appreciate if you leave a comment and let me know what your goals are for this month and if you were able to meet your goals for January and remember if you have any tips on
Mothering a little baby and being able to balance making things and and spending time with the little boss um I would love I would love to know what you what you have been able to do or how you’ve been able to do it see you later hi
Baba hi too fussy for the walk too fussy for the walk hi oh he cried oh no poor Bubba poor Bubba Okay so
