Light is always the trickiest to gauge because human eyes adjust to highly varying ranges of light levels. Our brains are not tuned to sense small differences in brightness, it’s actually the opposite – we normalize everything. This means, when humans discuss light, the discussion is often just about sun or no sun, and the nuances are lost to the detriment of houseplants.

Using a light meter will tell you how much light (in the general sense) is actually reaching the sensor. Correlating the reading to “angle of view of the sky” will give you contextual understanding.
