Jarrariums

First jar!!

So my son has taken an interest in jarrariums recently, so decided to take a bit of mud and a reed from a local stream and put it in a jar, I let him know we may not see anything for a few weeks.
A day later we have all sorts going on, loads of little creature buzzing about (are these isopods maybe) and a larvae hanging off the debris on the surface that looks like he’s on the hunt.
Anyway, my boys buzzing and already wants to make a bigger one. Thank you to this sub and the people that post, I wouldn’t have thought of doing this without coming across it. 👍🏻

If you can swing it, get one of those $30 microscopes that connects to your phone off Amazon. Mine does 500x & 1600x I think. Came with a stand. Great for pictures and videos at the amateur level. Won’t win any awards but you can see the tiniest swimming flecks of white well enough to start id’ing them.
