Plant Propagation

Is it possible to propagate?

I have a Pink Princess Philidendron plant and I accidentally ripped a leaf off. Do you guys think it would be possible to propagate this leaf? it’s been like a month since it’s broke off and i’ve somehow kept it barely alive by sticking it in a cup of water. There hasn’t been any growth, do you guys think it’s possible to grow roots? or is this a lost cause.

Google leaf vein propagation. I just saw this method recently. Haven’t tried it yet. But I will very soon.

I don’t think it’s possible for this to propagate. Philodendrons props need to have a node attached to the leaf in order to push out new growth. I know I’ve seen cases of individual leaves (not sure if they were philodendrons) sending out roots when they still had their stems, but even those wouldn’t survive for long because they didn’t have a node. I’m sorry that this likely won’t survive. It’s such a pretty leaf!

Do you want to be posted to houseplantcirclejerk? Because this is how you get there. 🥲

  4. thanks everyone for the input! I figured this was a dumb question and a lost cause but I also figured it didn’t hurt to ask. I’m new to propagating plants and i’ve been wanting to propagate anything I get my hands on lol. but now I know not everything can be saved. It was worth a try!
