Japanese Friendship Garden San Diego Cherry Blossom Festival

A complete tour of the Japanese Friendship Garden in San Diego during Cherry Blossom season. The Japanese Friendship Garden is a twelve-acre Japanese garden located within Balboa Park in San Diego, California. The Japanese Friendship Garden is designed to present an atmosphere of elegant simplicity (shibui) and quiet beauty. The garden’s naturalistic design is guided by the original principles/techniques of the Japanese garden while incorporating elements of the regional San Diego landscape and climate; in terms of features, the garden is well known for its unique placement, sukiya-style buildings, koi ponds, and landscape exhibits.
The Japanese Friendship Garden also holds an annual Cherry Blossom Festival. During the festival, visitors encounter Japanese tradition of flower viewing or hanami including other traditional practices in the Japanese culture.

  1. Three days ago we just purchased the membership at "Descanso gardens" (also went to Huntington gardens not part of membership) which allows us into this Japanese and San Diego Botanical Gardens. The only reason we did it this way because of the crazy 90 mile rule at some of the gardens and we could apply the cost of Descanso. The roses should be in bloom soon too at Balboa Park.Gorgeous pictures of the blossoms Chris…loving your watermelon shirt

  2. I always enjoy visiting the garden. There are certain days that if you live in San Diego, you can get in for free. I love your new watermelon lick.

  3. Hi Chris. Wonderful day to enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms. Worth the price of admission. Thanks for sharing and take care.

  4. Thanks for this, Chris! It brings back so many great memories of my trip to San Diego in January! I spent most of my trip at this garden taking part in a bunch of events and artisan demonstrations! What an amazing place! When did you film this video? When I was there at the end of January, the blossoms had already started to bloom. I wish I could have been there for the Wisteria blooming!

  5. I’ve been to the Japanese garden at Huntington Library many times but didn’t know this one. I must visit soon. Thank you so much for this video.

  6. You got lucky they’re so much in bloom…we were there on March 10th (my sons birthday) and they were only a little over 10% (still a lovely experience)

  7. Balboa Park is awesome!! Best model train museum anywhere !!!! And I'm lucky enough to have visited the Air and Space museum a dozen + times before the 78 fire…
