I found this bit of a mini monstera broken off at a hardware store and took it home. I put it in water and hoped it would grow roots but as of now it has no new roots and it looks like it’s rotting? How can I save this? I have kept the water level low to try to avoid rot but that didn’t work. What did I do wrong?

keep the stem fully submerged to grow roots, otherwise it will just rot from the moisture
Also it will take a few weeks
Rhaphidophora** not actually a monstera.. Rhaphidophora tetrasperma. And they can be slow to root.. I’d suggest sphag moss over water.
Cut off and treat the rot spots then maybe let callous before trying again.
