I am asking because I want to keep two branches and only cut one so I get new shoots on one branch half way as you can see on the picture.
When I search for dracaena propagation online people always cut it back drastically. But I just want a different look at one branch

It should work if you cut above a node. If you don’t see a node, don’t cut it. It looks like you want to cut a big piece. You would be better off air rooting a large piece. Less risk of dying.
