Plant Propagation

Where would you cut this?

I thought this plant was doing well. Clearly there’s a bald spot so I think it should be cut and I should try and propagate it. The question is where. Or do I chop it and toss it?

The vervet it right where the balding happens then chop below each node. You can throw away the bald spots if you’d like or try to prop them!

An inches or two below a node. Believe that’s the rule of thumb on most plants. It worked for my Phothos. 😊

First off, you have pests. Treat the soil stay or you’ll loose the entire plant. I bet it’s a sapsucker by the state of the plant. I use Bonide systemic granules. Kills them and their larvae. You can propagate but I’d use Castile soap and neem to soak the entire vines in for 24-48 hours. Then I’d cut the vine. Cut 1” below the node and 1/2” above it. Take out of the soak and cut them. Then let sit out over night on a stack of clean paper towels. The cuts need to crust over. So if they don’t darken, pucker and harden then let them sit out another night. You can use rooting hormone right after cutting and it will help. Still let sit out for 1-3 days. Then use distilled water in very clean and dry propagating containers. I put in a few existing props with baby roots. They provide the natural rooting hormone and speed up this entire process. Sit in a window sill somewhere and just forget about them. They’ll grow like crazy.
