“The sun has finally come out, so let’s get some jobs done in the cottage garden! I’ll be planting out my sweet peas, and keeping my fingers and toes crossed that they survive the sneaky slugs. I’ll also be showcasing my latest Looking Glass collection, giving the studio a good tidy and enjoying an evening stroll around the farm with Pickle and Charlie.

Hope you enjoy this video, and please remember to hit the like and subscribe button for free, as this really helps the growth of my channel and allows me to continue to make content for everyone to enjoy.” – Gillian x

Lost Forest- an ode to folklore and flowers. A day in my life. Turn on closed captions (CC) to follow today’s story. 17TH | APRIL | 7:30AM The shimmering morning light searches its way through the arms of the blackthorn. This ancient tree inhabited by the Fae folk, is speckled with fragile white blossoms. It heralds the real beginning of springtime, as the Irish countryside becomes crowned in jewels of white gold . The rain has abated for now, and we’re blessed with a cool, spring day. Awakening in my bedroom bathed in early morning light, is a tonic like no other for the soul. Everything seems more manageable, hopeful, and calm. The benefit of seeing the sun has an almost Otherworldly effect on the body and mind. Fingers crossed it will stay in our company for a while at least. The cherry blossoms dance upon the spring gusts, and the kitty blossoms do too! I join the boys in the garden for a chamomile tea and listen to the birdsong. I make a simple breakfast and delve back into my gardening bible for inspiration. Pickle pops off to the land of nod, and who can blame him? Stretched out in the warm window box, snuggled in sunshine. The moo ladies are finally out in the meadows, delighting in their sweet grassy banquet. I’m hoping the garden will finally have time to heal from all the rain. Last spring it was awash with tulips and daffodils at this time, but there’s certainly less this year, and the weather no doubt was the culprit. With the blossoms I do have, I’ll create a mini bouquet for the studio. Let’s bring the garden indoors. Oh look who’s come to visit us… Monty! Kisses for his bestie Charlie….. but Charlie is already plotting evil things…… Let’s get started on my brand new Looking Glass collection. Each one contains a tiny botanical scene, intricately built up in layers with my trusty tweesers. The collection is currently available in my shop online. Everyone is completely exhausted after that! Pickle is being dramatic as usual! I think the studio needs a big clean and tidy…… All better! A fresh studio makes me eager to start new projects in the coming days. My coffee boost even contains rainbows for a job well done. Mr Pup tells me that I need to plant out my sweet pea seedlings. I’ve never had much luck with sweet peas, as the wet clay and nearby meadows mean a lot of slugs make their journey into my garden However, I’m going to try again with a slightly different technique. I’ll be growing them up the new obelisk, The crossing bars will make it easy to tie them in as they grow upwards. My husband is busy felling and bringing in fallen ash trees, sadly taken too soon by the dreaded ash-dieback disease. I’m going to try adding rooting powder to the roots of the seedlings. I usually use this method for propagating rose cuttings, and I’m hoping it’ll give them a good strong start in the ground. Once they get tall enough, I’ll tie them with soft gardening twine. Now for my experiment, adding a ring of coarse grit to keep the slugs away. My theory is they won’t like the sharp edges rubbing along their bellies. Fingers crossed it works! The evening rolls in in the blink of an eye. Let’s go for a walk together in the meadows We’ve worked up an appetite, so I rustle up a delicious meal. Fresh spaghetti in a homemade spinach and basil pesto, topped with sundried tomatoes and tenderstem broccoli. I spend the rest of the evening chatting with Chubbers, he’s a surprisingly intelligent and well read gent! I’ll be taking a little break for a few weeks, and I’ll be returning with a renewed creative vigour for making exciting new videos! I hope you’ll stay with me in the meantime, and click the subscribe button to be notified of my return. Thank you to all my wonderful Lost Forest friends for your support so far…. until we meet again….
