hey guys hey guys Happy Spring it is the most gorgeous night out and we are planting up behind us our Cottage Garden front area of our garden right now it looks like chaos because we just I just laid a ton of plants out I’m processing what I want to put in there but Sebastian can maybe show you all we have is two gar on each side and a fairy TR bride hydrangea that is kind of sad it justl had a hard time coming back from the winter so I’m going to dig it up and put it in a hot and then we’re going to switch it with a bobo hydrangea and Sebastian’s going to help me make a decision cuz I have a lot of pretty things I need help yes and she wants all the pretty things all in one place at the same time all of them all of them and I just want to cram them in but I know you can’t do that so we are going to make it cottagey looking um again it’s in our front front of our garden and it trails around to the side which is also cottagey Garden that’s more planted up but we have a few things to add to it but not as much so let’s show you the design Holly laid it out I’m just going to turn the camera around here she has laid it out so much like a painter just grabs all their colors and gets a palette ready and going she’s like let me just put this here put that there and then she asks me and I’m like uh let’s think about spacing here and that’s kind of what the video we wanted to chat about a little bit is just the process of planting up a garden I’d say the style we’re going for is Cottage with a little more structure i’ say and that’s what I need help in cuz I know it needs structure and is really good at showing me like what is good structure so let me explain a little my thought process I saw these at the nursery and I stole them she stole them they are Gorge like look at this it’s like a clump o got some Thorns it’s a clump on a like one thing so I thought these would be pretty I think they’re like going to make the effect of just constant covered blooms all the time so I wanted to do a drift here I might move the gar back or something but I want to base it off of that and then we’re going to put the Bobo hydrent in the middle we were going to we have a beautiful apricot Rose Looking that I got on clearance a couple years ago it’s gorgeous we need to stake it up and straighten it but um it should be covered in blooms really really soon and we were going to put this what is this name Sebastian let’s see Berry Timeless Coral Bell’s HRA which is known for its bloom most people keep them on and even use them for um cut flowers we actually got that one on accident by Walter’s Gardens we ordered I can’t remember it was one of the shast da wasn’t a hook yeah no we ordered a Shasta Daisy and they accidentally send this this instead and then they ended up replacing it which is absolutely fine but the fun part is I got to learn more about this plant cuz I wouldn’t have purchased it or carried it at the nursery regard you know I just I would have seen it and thought that’s pretty but I don’t think it’ll sell yeah and those of you that know proven Winter’s um spearmint it’s kind of like that but I think even more so on the blooms so it’s like got that green silvery Leaf texture experim yes which is really beautiful and this one it’s called endless or what is it Timeless Timeless because it has these beautiful blooms but once they’re spent they will stick on much like a status they’ll stick on the kx’s so they actually won’t look so spent they look like they’re just going and you can cut these and use them as cut flowers and it will rebloom so it’s a continuous rebloomer essentially it always looks like this cute Luka’s got some animal cards the cutest little penguin is that a baby penguin Luka yep that’s so sweet cute little penguin and then behind it is a brown bear card hey we have a brown bear he’s over there he’s a mix between a brown bear a black bear and a polar bear love that so we were going to put the Hooka all the way around I got to grab some more and then last year we had lavender Fox Glove behind here and it was so pretty so I grabbed a whole bunch from the nursery and that’s why you see stuff at the nursery cuz it’s usually stuff that I want in my garden I’m like hey sashan we need this we need this we’re going to do snow drift like white I wanted to do white and then some saffron Finch these I thought look gorgeous by the Rocks these are the James Bania Safari Dusk and then I was thinking of maybe carrying them over there I wanted to do a couple flocks we’re going to put some over there but the opal lessons I I’m challenging Holly she wants two fls right there and I think this is what a lot of you guys struggle with two I had three I took one out when you see a plant like this for example especially if you order online so we carry these at our online store the um we ship these size and can you grab one real quick I want to show them the I can’t remember it’s opal Ence but just any of the opal Ence three of these serious so she had three right there and you see you know it looks like a grande pot this is a quart it’s a little bigger than a grande pot uh luminary opalescence flux right here and it is it grows to be 30 to 32 in tall so this raise bed right here is 2T tall so you’re going to get another foot above this which is perfect I don’t want this Garden blocked I want to see through it so I want just enough height in order to be able to see that and also let’s look at here it will say minimum spacing about 24 in wide so that’s going to be about 2 ft so I don’t think people realize um when they’re planting in this area I’d say we have about 3 and 1/2 ft from here to here and I’d say from here to here we have close to 2 ft so if you plant this in the center we’ll have about 6 in spacing behind or there and then we do want it to kind of cover the Rocks a little bit to Grace it to soften the edges of the Rocks so that it looks a little more natural not like we just placed some rocks like it does now so I am challenging Holly I think we should only do one she wanted to do three and I was like ah no so this is where practicing restraint I think will pay off because later on they’ll be so crowded we’ll have to remove a plant and then I wanted to do some Peach Sky Yar y thank you the Yaro somewhere in here and then I just grabbed some more plants and we just planted the standby me catus I thought would be beautiful on this um Garden sign that smashan made me I was thinking maybe an alium on each end I’m not sure an Alum here and an Alum there don’t mind the weeds here if you can see here this is where we had some either Fabric or or weed protection underneath and then right here we have not done anything so that’s why these weeds are showing up I told Sebastian it’s funny when you make stuff really pretty you almost can appreciate it when you have like a section that’s not pretty it’s like you do appreciate it a little more so so anyway I’m not showing you that area yet because Holly’s making a video I don’t know which one we go first but we are replanting the whole situation over there so alium right here I told Holly I think NEPA would be pretty because the alium is taller than the NEPA and these will go lower and we do have NEPA over there that we wanted to tie in we have some over there we want to pull it over here it’s fun um if you have it in one area to try to do fewer plants not like I’m doing fewer but um fewer varieties and and then you can put it in multiple areas and it ties it in really well and then let me swing over here we’re going to put a bobo in the center here I like the fairy TR bride because of its laciness but I think this will be a good pick cuz it also has that Lacy look um we just planted a phenomenal lavender there which is beautiful with its silvery foliage and I thought it might be really pretty with three Italian ice roses with that pretty color and some of the flocks tucked back there this area stays really wet from our drip I look at that she put four flocks together in what let’s say 12 inch spacing or foot spacing right there I think it’s great so that’s my idea we put some manard here a little bit ago and then we have banana cream and the queen what is she the EG stacky Queen nectarine yeah Queen nectarine um Queen nectarine yeah and then some wizard of us there but so the these right here are the beautiful uh NEPA right here you can see when we drilled holes some of the clay came up so it’s poking through this was previously mulched at these spring weeds coming already spring weeds are wanting to come up so we’re excited to plant all this once we’re done with all the planting then we’ll go ahead and just mulch the entire bed but right now we’re just going to make a big mess and not worry about it but right here we got the banana cream Shasta daisy look how big that Clump is so these will be blooming in pretty much no time cuz they have right here some buds they’re budding up and the queen nectarine aaki is starting to throw out some blooms as well so we’re going to be able to see all three of these blooming around the same time how fun will that which will be beautiful and that’s kind of what I I’m trying to get perennials to be blooming around the same time these right here will have to Shear back at some point and then they’ll re Bloom and something that’s really cool I didn’t realize we are in Greenville South Carolina 8B these Shasta daisies stay Evergreen for us which is so cool and the Hooka should too so that would be fun to have some green during the cooler and winter months too yes and I don’t know what happened there we’re going to see if that guy comes back if not we’ll replace him but we have more of the Shasta daisies the banana cream at the nursery so we might look it looks like a dandelion mixed in with a chassa daisy yeah so we might replace him these two right here are Veronica’s white wands I want to make a another drift eventually but this year we got in at the nursery Wizard of Oz the wizard of Ozz which is purplish which I like so I might make a few I want to get at least three white wands maybe five and then do purple as well a little drift yes and then wherever like right here this area is all perennials wherever there’s holes I’m going to start to put annals just whenever you know cuz these are it’s like an orchestra somebody’s going to be singing and playing an instrument at a different time so if we want blooms all the time I’m just going to sprinkle in some annals at some point and the main thing is I wanted just a lot of fun things but I don’t want it to look too crazy and busy and wild cuz we do have a lot of other flowers so we’re just going to set the camera up decide move stuff and plant let’s do it awesome all right so so far we’re just kind of deciding on each plant placement we mov the gar from here I don’t know if you can see it from there to back here so it’ll fill in this whole spot it’ll look nice and wispy and we do want a little green border around it cuz it does have a cottagey feel gar does but it’s a little wild and we decided to put the three oo easy pey roses in the front I have the augur this is the power planter augur I can’t remember 28 in long this is the 4 in so it’s for the Grande pots but if um I have the quart here I just wiggle it around a little bit more so just making a big hole here we’re putting some biotone in sticking this guy in probably going to make all the holes first and then we’ll stick everything in all at once but I’m just doing this to show you and then we’ll fast forward everything and for those of you that think oh that was so easy you have like amazing soil you don’t have clay soil this here I have literally put compost and I have mulched this multiple times soil and if it gets dry it’s like brick bricks but that is so the top I’d say what maybe now we do have some nice soil it’s CU we’ve been working on it and adding a lot of stuff but the power planter makes it so much more doable because otherwise you have these big chunks you’re trying to get through with the shovel and I don’t know that we’d be able to get this much in in this amount of time without it so we do carry these at our online store set apart Farming Gardens ship now.com uh which is awesome so we with them highly highly recommend yes check it out but Power planter if you know about power Planters you know it just makes it so easy all right so this is already fertilized we’re just going to stick this guy right in and then we’re just going to cover him back up I’m going to try to recycle this mulch that’s laying around and these pieces of clay right here trying to make it not visible but we are going to go back eventually and add some more clay yeah not clay mulch I’m not adding more clay all right show you guys the gorgeousness rose number one in and then my method is I literally like to kick them aside I love when it moves as one big solid Clump C hole number two down hole number three done all right so we’re going to get to planting and we’ll show you everything in a little bit That’s so [Music] exciting honey smuckles honey Smule honey suckle smells so incredible [Music] [Music] every wants to play [Music] [Music] a just wanted to say real quick we are adding a little bit of top soil in these holes you don’t want to add you don’t want to dig a hole and then add compost or top soil in the bottom because it’ll create a wet area in the bottom so if you mix it in you’re fine so we’re just mixing it in all right guys we got everything almost planted Sebastian is just finished finishing up I apologize our garden is a little weedy cuz we’ve been in the nursery so behind it you’ll see extra green but we got it all planted up and spans just finishing the L plants we’re going to see if we can still get the ones planted around the corner but it’s looking so beautiful it looks nice just to like smashan said not see the pots it feels less chaotic but it looks gorgeous okay the sunset is gorgeous too all right so here where we have our Rose Tree on standard that’s a little tilted we’ll straighten it um we put the HRA under it which looks so dainty and beautiful we back planted it with the Camelot mix Fox Glove there look how pretty those are we have snow drift in front we just started planting with what we knew and then went from there and it was pretty easy and then we put the James Beren around the rock which looks so cute hugging that it’s really I love that part it’s really gorgeous and then we got I think that was the first thing we might have put in with the Roses yeah is that what we did did plant them pretty tight so that make they make a little hedge yeah I wanted a little hedge of them so we got those in we switched the gar to the back and then we put knocking some plants over we put the saffron Finch in front in a little swoop we took some out cuz I have an area behind the fire pit back there that I want to put them so we put a couple luscious lemon Lantana in yeah we wanted to continue just to block a yellow so we use these they’re going to be great this is our store if you’re wondering what is all here I just grabbed Flats of plants and then James Bania swoosh all the way over there which looks so pretty with the yellow I love that and it ties it in by the Rocks over there it does so well and then we’re still putting that in we put the Bobo hydranga going to sneak past you I don’t know if he’ll be a thug this year they’re typically a thug the bobos which is interesting they might like our area because I think they’re they’re said to be smaller right they say they’re going to max out about two maybe 3 ft but they can get bigger which would be fine here I think maybe we’ll see we put the uh peach Sky Yaro around there kept the gar here we stuck in one of the adorable pure Cotton Tail yaros um which Bloom like beautiful baby’s breath white blooms speci and put three of the s alium here and then a few of the cat’s pajamas NEP where’s the other one oh there it is right there kind of Blends in with the flocks a little bit which is neat but so it’s a nice border perennial so pretty so full of flowers but green at the same time so it’s not too wild um it it be pretty when we get like the wispy stuff going with the gar and different stuff so it’ll be a nice mix I love it so much I hope you guys can see close enough trying to pan around but it’ll be fun to do a now and a later once everything’s blooming me just pan you guys yeah when it’s blooming so my hair’s a little wild cuz it’s getting humid and I’m sweating and it just like goes so you’re welcome it’s very curly it gets very curly so I’m going to turn this around Holly showed you everything already but I did want to chat a little bit about Cottage garden design of course this is I’m trying to add a little structure with a little Whimsy and a little bit of of looseness um which I feel like our garden is structured anyway so that helps it’s a bit of a backdrop if you have like a fence or if you have something like that that’ll definitely help um this rose on standard here meaning rose on a stick is leaning for sure but that does offer a ton of structure and that really helps and when we’re trying to plant everything so that it feels like a Cottage Garden but it doesn’t feel so loose and wild that it doesn’t make and weedy because often there’s a lot of cottage gardens and it just depends on your style but man birds are loud honestly the last couple years though we had um the gar there but I think we had I got to stay close to you because of the mic microphone um last couple years we had the gar and I think we planted angelonia and sunflowers and maybe something else and it was all just like wild sticks and it was too much you couldn’t app too much upright growth habit things and they’re all upright they all had the same Leaf structure so it just felt like weeds blooming it was pretty but it just one plant didn’t stand out from the other and we’re trying to avoid that so that it looks cohesive it’s a pretty area we walk by all the time we do have over there once we do those videos a ton of color that’s like really vibrant really just kind of full looking which this looks muted in a good like Turned toned down and it has a little bit of a highlight from that yellow if you can see kind of everything stands out beautifully and then the yellow’s kind of like ah little pop and then the white really makes it pop too but again we’re going for structure underneath I did end up doing that hooka we’re hoping it does say full sun it says it’s super heat tolerant native to our area in the Southeast here so we’re going to test it and see if it fries up in our sun or if it stays really well we’re just going to kind of typically it’s more shade tolerant but we’re going to test it I love just the looseness of the blooms but the structure right here that this offers I think it’s beautiful and the leaves are a little more they’re going to be greenish silver but they’re Bolder against with this waxy dark green leaf then we have of course the super Tunas we have the fox gloves which are going to be a height in the back I am questioning that a little bit if they’re a little too tight but the nice thing is about Cottage Gardens is that you can kind of fudge your spacing quite a lot you can cram things in the only thing about cramming things in especially with perennials over the years you will have to begin to remove more perennials as they get a little more suffocated because div them yes move them divide them and whatnot so around here we we’re just keeping the purples and pink theme over there what I’m seeing right here wanted to show you guys we have the Yar which is upright it’s going to be a peachy color which I think will be beautiful I love the fern structure especially against the hydrangea I do think they’re a little close to the hydrangea but we’ll see there’s a loose structure here in the middle which I think think this area right here will help with the structure right here if it gets too messy we’ll pop some things out right here there’s a little bit of a hole I think did you already mention we’re going to stick some angeloni in there no cuz what we’re noticing right here there’s a bit of a hole and we need a little height I think oh sorry I think I forgot to say too on all the corners we have the David Austin Strawberry Hill Climbing Rose yeah so that’ll be a beautiful climbing rose we’re going to put an arch here and some sort of gate situation by the garden but right here in this area I’m craving a little upright so we’re going to do the angelonia it does have a waxy green bold Leaf does great in our climate and it gets a decent size so we’re only going to put one cuz by the time these plants get filled I just need a little height it will be pretty pink color against the purple blooms against the NEPA purple against the white of the Peter Cotton Tail Yaro and then over here we’re going to do a little bit of the I think Holly mentioned that but the pen to which offers height as well so we’re trying to vary but we’re also planting in grouping so like three roses a couple hooka okay guys so that’s pretty much it for this we will definitely keep you guys updated with some when we finish planting it even more as well as when it’s blooming we’ll do some tours and things so thanks for joining us for our fast c garden planting beating the light as usual take care bye bye
