so here we have saiko doing a workshop so can you say something about your Creations today all the participants creations and perhaps they can be in as well yes well thank you Mr CH today’s Arrangement include a very nice Willow which gives the um the life of beautiful curvature for our main Shin branch and creating a space underneath this curved line we have created um s important combination of material fora which is a very old um over 500 year old design we have used irises for um well some people for Shing and those so the DOI another very important material is this laat leaves which becomes a central door area some people use the seasonal Japanese Queens they have a lovely apricot color okay and I actually use the edia for my Arrangement then we use the I use oim maners for the door smallish door and the mayi then the lower part for dianas and Japanese quiz now other people use diff uh slightly different material now does the material have a significance because I noticed you use some uh Cyprus as well yes and The Willow yes um it is a contrasting oh different material Willow has such a significant curvature created with this beautiful big Dynamic line on the other hand I use um wooden material for my sha Sheen at the back which is quite straight upright and they they do have a slightly different significance for the use and the meaning but they all have we what we call yakeda we have nine yaka we have to follow and uh different positions and height but this is a very old technique of doing a dika I’m going to ask my members what they thought their workshop today starting from mother the workshop was very interesting and we Lear which was yours mine malas okay uh because we learned how to combine Woody material and grass material and how to connect it together so uh it was an extension a little bit more advanced R we’ve done today uh really learning about how to connect ground now can you say something about the PT because we take a notice of everything it’s like the Gold Line sometimes we have Bonsai pots which are cracked we repair it with gold is it that no it’s not it’s not it’s not that is it a repair this is not Ki um vase but yes you’re right we do have the beauty in imperfection but create the beauty out of okay all right okay um yes I think the other thing was such a good saying uh that this was these Arrangements were done for good luck okay back in the 15th 16th century when they had a a lot of B battles and that so um it’s a water arrangement that’s why we’ve got the wide mouth and water was a way of um oh so you deliberately show the water yes okay so that’s why it’s a wide M wide I see the water so it’s a water sort of arrangement yeah so does the water have any significance oh yes water is a like surviving U material we we all need water in our life okay so it’s important to um um have this kind of arrangement a lot of water all right okay for Lake and pond but in ourika we have this um Mountain the water coming down from uh mountains through the waterfall and down to um River then Ori so we have this line called nagashi so this water falls and it flows to the river and I notice all your Willows are leaning to the right hand side it’s like wind swept effect MH um I know that if you made it symmetrical on either side somehow it would not look right is it somewh would not look right I think asymmetry is yes okay all right did you have to bend the willow to make it Bend more did we use wires and tapes okay yeah yes the colors all very soft pastel would you consider using a very bright red flow for inst it would still be okay if we had the okay bright red it would not matter as long as it Blends yeah I think we tried to use a lot of garden material so seasonal this time of the year like yellow flowers I personally do not like yellow flowers I don’t like DS in the flower I don’t mind seeing them in in the ground do you find yellow difficult color to use um not really no that’s a bit of yellow no we like having a nice uh contrasting color so sometimes we like using yellow in the center because it’s it’s like a focal point orange and yellow so we like using that and also red or of course in F red and in Japan that’s red and white they are the good sort of uh celebration color okay can I comment something about your loquat leaves why did you show The Backs side of the leaf not the front of the leaf there is there is a reason for this good question well we we have something called in yo yeah when we do the arrangement and right in the center basically this this Shin is in the middle and anything comes forward we have to be aware it the flower is facing towards the shin so we are supposed to be showing the back of the leaves is it because you like to show the veins of the leaf no it’s more of following the nature sometimes when we when we look at observe the nature that’s how plants are growing so we are emulating that situation in our Arrangement okay I’m trying to think if you show it the other way around would it work no the leaves would lie a different way isn’t it no if we going to show it will be let’s say there are occasions when we use back at the back if that is the case we will show the face okay all right any other question now this this sometimes we don’t like too much in the front you know like both these are in the front M uh yes if if you reduce it a little bit would it work like that no we they’re called May oh we we have that um sort of important PL right in the center which protruding at the front it’s I’m afraid it’s part of the arrangement is it actually to give you the front depth in the arrangement front depth because we always talk of the depth of the back you know so that’s the reason you have a back depth with this and this G but in the front if you didn’t have that it would not look it would look like half Arrangement oh okay because the front depth makes it together in proportion to everything 3d effect is it 3D yeah I like all these pots these pots are beautiful there used to be a Potter called H scopa in the mid 60s German Potter who lived in this country and he used to make big pots like this St pox this this shape very nice we appreciate this very much because very similar to what we do as well in Bonsai so next time you come I would like to see you combine those dead trees and dead things you know Jan can create something but you’re quite right for example the creating this Arrangement is actually creating the branches and the trees in a certain form certain direction and your bon side you do the same you use a wire and you change direction of your small branches so we there is a lot of similarity in your if you care I will give me 10 minutes I’ll show you some final points of some Bonsai okay which you will appreciate you will come with me now [Music]

  1. Thx for sharing Peter, this reminded me about ikebana u mentioned sometime ago in one of your old video,.. ๐Ÿ‘

  2. Zen Buddhists have tried to claim it as their invention…but it came from Women !! There is evidence of this in early art scrolls ๐Ÿ˜Š

  3. This is a completely different video to the usual. It's nice to see other disciplines and the people that make the arrangements. all of these ladies are very knowledgeable and explained their creations well. A very nice video Peter.

  4. Could you do another video this year on creating some more clump style trees. I know you've made a few videos already but I love how you walk people through the process and how good you are at making the best with the material you have on hand.

  5. Hi Peter,
Beautiful philosophy on flowers arrangement. Ikebana which I find a little more simplistic. Ikebana shows the essence of the simple flower arrangement.

More is less that was what we learned in design school.
As one professor told the class:

โ€œ Keep it simple.โ€ In order for you to keep it simple you must first know the essence of simplicity. Cluttered design is hiding your design behind the cluttered. A great design is a simple design that decluttering the structure of the design. A simple design is the most hard to achieve, because you have to declutter the structure of the design in order to solve the design problem.

I noticed there is a lot of symbolism in their flower arrangement. Symmetry is not what we are after here. I think that why most Asian cultures always talk about off balance. It gives it a point of interest. You can see it in the flower arrangement also in their paintings.

Very fascinating video, something new to learn today. Thank for an interesting subject matter and may you have a Blessed Easter Sunday.
    God Bless.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™
