Plant Propagation

what should i do next?

hello everyone i’m in seek of some advice, not sure what my next step would be. so the first three pictures are from yesterday. i took some cuttings and planted them in sand with the root boost on the ends. the last three pictures are from last year. i left them in there for 6-7 weeks with the lid on and the roots developed pretty well i would say, i potted the two cuttings together and by the next day they had wilted over and died. did i do something wrong? or was that plant never going to survive? id appreciate any advice as i would like to know how to properly propagate these plants. i’m in zone 5, thank you for any advice.

I’m in zone 5. I watched Mike Kincaid on YouTube for prop info on shrubs. Great source. I’ve had hydrangeas babies in pots year round: winter covered inside bins. This year I’m going to repot into larger pots with fertilizer. I might wait till next year to plant. 🌱
