I had to dig up a tree root in my yard, and I put a big chunk of it in a jar with some moss sprinkled on to see what else would grow on it. There's a few different kinds of mold plus these weird protrusions. They seem to start as velvety black dots then grow out and upwards, and they perspire in a way that makes me think they're all connected. What the heck is this?
