Swiss cheese vine prop question

Hey there!

So I got a vine cutting from my bestie to try and propagate, got home cut the vine up into nice little node and leaf chunks and popped it into some water. It's been about 3 weeks now and I'm not seeing much for any root growth but it looks like it is starting to put out new leaves by the nodes??? It kind of has my head spinning because I havent had this happen in previous propagations (I've done this kind of prop with pothos and philodendron before). Should I just continue to let it do it's thing so I can get that root growth? Also should I be concerned about the leaves rotting because they are under water?
Curious if anyone has had this happen to them before and what was the result?
