  1. How long has it been? I’ve put some in water about three and a half weeks ago and I’m just now seeing roots on mine.

I just plant my tradescantia in dirt as-is or add rooting powder if i feel fancy, and they are fine.

  3. I propagated some of these last month in water and they had roots within 5 days (I was very surprised how quick that happened).

I suppose it just needs more time! Some people have had success just popping them straight into soil – they are pretty hardy.

Pull the lower leaves off to expose the nodes. Trim the stems to 1/4 inch below the lowest node and put them in fresh water. Keep them in a very bright location, but not in direct sun. Check again in a week to see if roots have started. If you have a pothos, put a pothos cutting in with them because they produce their own rooting hormone which can help the tradescantia.

  5. Can try moist sphagnum in a Ziploc bag. Water take some time, but when your done they release very good rooting hormone and can help other plant water prop easily

Fresh cuts so they can pull water in, they look ripped and possibly aren’t able to oxygenate the whole plant. I use my best fish filleting knife to make nice clean sharp cuts. I don’t know if it helps but I also always do a diagonal cut.

I have found that if the cutting is too long they will often take longer or rot rooting them in water

You need to take the bottom few leaves off. Theres no roots cuz there isnt really anywhere for them to conveniently grow from. You need to expose a few nodes. Id do more than 1 exposed node, cuz if theres too many leaves, then any energy it gets will be allocated towards keeping the leaves healthy, and it won’t have any energy left for growing roots.

  9. Put em straight in moist soil! I find tradescantia prop really easy in soil!

Shove it in soil and leave it be. Trust me, eventually you’ll wish it’d stop growing for a bit lol

  11. I see them root after even one day sometimes if it’s from a healthy plant
