Anxiety haulted our plans, so we did this instead. | Will this garden grow? | Gardening in hard pan.

He planned an exciting outing for my birthday, but my anxiety said, “Nope.” Nevertheless, we had a beautiful day at home together creating a new gardening space with lots of room to grow food.

I’m usually against tilling, but this land is full of hard pan and clay. In order to grow anything, we had to do some deep tilling to make the ground workable.

I was beginning to doubt this year’s garden, but things are starting to look up!

hey guys so it’s my birthday and I told you all the things that we’re planning to do no I didn’t because I ended up editing a lot of that stuff out of that video because I got a little too mushy and I didn’t want to put it in there orange tray orange tray but um well I kind of messed that up because my anxiety got the best of boyfriend had a full day planned out for us and I was really excited about it lots of things that I would normally really enjoy if it wasn’t for my anxiety I didn’t want to be that far away from the oh gosh I forgot what he said already 8 mm I didn’t my anxiety was bad I didn’t want to be that far away from home I didn’t want to be around a bunch of people so instead we’re at the house and we’re making a big inground Garden space lots of little Chicken Treats in the compost pile I thought I had a a ton of compost but it’s it’s nothing compared to the size of this Garden I need a lot more that’s pretty much it these three little dark piles I don’t think it’s going to make it all the way we got six beautiful rows I don’t care that they’re not perfect if you want a good workout don’t pay for a gym membership start gardening start homesteading you won’t need any of that fancy gym equipment I promise there’s one of those gifts I was telling you guys about nope no I didn’t didn’t tell you about that either that’s part of the stuff that got cut out of the video I don’t even know if it was maybe it was Christmas maybe it was my birthday last year maybe it was just because I didn’t even have a big Garden at that point and now I need it not really need so much as it’s going to save me a lot of time look at this plantain I took a little bitty baby plant and pulled up by the roots and stuck it in here and Chen compost this is massive the seed stalks on this thing this is what I’ve got done so far in the garden trying to use lawn clippings and leaves for mulch because the stuff seems to be drying out fairly quickly I’ve had cats in here using the potty already this is going to be a problem I put some of my little pepper seedlings in that were in the greenhouse kind of stunted I I don’t know that they’ll do anything but I figured why not stick them out here and at least try got potatoes I stuck in random places nothing’s coming up yet I put corn squash beans sunflowers all those seeds are in here but it’s it’s only been 48 hours so I don’t expect anything should be popping whole row most of this row and part of this row are kind of nicer even though it’s sandy lomy soil it’s darker it’s nicer it had more organic material in it but as you move over and back further this way this is like red clay looking soil because it’s it was hard pan I don’t know if this was put here by my boyfriend’s family trying to build up the land cuz I know they had done that but also the original orders owners had a mobile home out here so they could have this could be part of the um little pad that they had down so not much organic matter or life in this soil so I’m going to have to work really hard to bring this stuff back to life I don’t know how well the seeds that I’ve already planted in here are going to do but it’s a first year garden and hopefully every year it’ll just keep getting better so long as I take care to while the I found a key in this stuff yesterday this uh grass clipping mulch stuff and I just noticed two more keys and looking down I see why there’s a whole thing of keys here I don’t know how we didn’t notice that before when we tilled up the land uh we found so much stuff so many old tools and just trash in the ground um they used to have old cars and trucks back here like I said the original owners had a home back here so I’m sure they had stuff in the yard as well um it’s pretty cool though cuz I like collecting old keys and now I’ve got a lot of them um what was I saying before that oh yeah so long as I keep amending the soil keep adding organic materials and composts and uh amendments and stuff um I should be able to turn this into a decent Garden space I’m trying really hard not to get disappointed by the failures I feel like I’m already experiencing in this year’s Garden um I’m going to show you my potatoes that are going south look at all those keys that’s so cool only the second day of May and it’s already so so hot here they were my beautiful potato plants and I started noticing the leaves getting these little rust spots on them and just since yesterday it’s gotten so much worse and it’s it’s definitely starting to cause issues and it’s spreading from one plant to the other and this could be a number of things I’m not exactly sure but a lot of them seem to be contagious if you will and I just noticed the same thing on my potatoes up by the house so hopefully I still get a potato Harvest out of it like I said I’m trying really hard not to get discouraged keep finding these little turds on my potatoes you need to get out of here also my tiil pepper plant was doing so well look at this it just fell over and there’s some kind of like fungal thing there there it was a huge patch like connecting all the branches together I don’t know what it is it’s like a [Music] spongy gross it’s it’s killing my plant this was my best producing pepper plant and it’s it’s absolutely killing it also there’s ants making their home in there hey guys it’s the next day and I have to show you something because yesterday I was telling you guys how I was feeling like so much of a failure and then today I was having such a rough day bad mental health day and just all around questioning why I even try so I came out to the Garden to water and I’ve got to show you guys overnight this was not here yesterday no it wasn’t we’ve got little seedlings popping up everywhere that’s all basil somehow this basil made it over here that little squash seeds I was stressing yesterday I don’t know if I mentioned but I was definitely stressing they’ve all popped up that one back there too the ants have moved out I moved this guy Outdoors ants are gone and while my potato plants are still slowly dying I dug back some of the soil underneath them and there’s potatoes everywhere and I’ve got corn popping up it looks like maybe it’s just a stub though I don’t know if something I don’t know what corn looks like when it comes up but I’m hoping cuz there is a little bunny out here here’s another one in a different bed I’m hoping the little bunny doesn’t find his way to my seedlings anyway I just wanted to share that with you guys because it made me feel a lot better and there’s some things I planted in pots over by the Quail Run that I didn’t think were going to come up and they’ve popped up overnight so I’m so thankful cuz I had a really rough day and I’m I’m so glad glad
