Plant Propagation

What is this white stuff?

I'm propagating some pothos cuttings and noticed this hair like stuff growing off the plants. I think it's mold, because the plant has had trouble with mold on the dirt, but I'm not sure. Any helps appreciated.

in my experience its okay. just gently wipe down the cutting and put it back in the water. you can change the water as well if that makes you feel better about it. as long as the cutting itself is not rotting you should be alright. again, in my experience but im definitely no expert.

I’m no expert, but my guess is it has something to do with how much of the plant is sitting in the water. This happens to me sometimes when I put a lot of stem in the stem/plant versus water ratio in the cup. I like to Have as little of the stem in the water as possible to avoid rot. So I usually only do one or two nodes underwater on each cutting. if that was my plant, I would personally chop it up a little in to separate propagations and you could either use paperclip or plastic wrap to suspend the parts of the stem or you could just stick them in soil or sphag moss.

Edit : used the wrong “to”

But I also believe it’s not that big of a deal probably if you keep changing the water when you see it? Good luck whatever you choose to do ✌️🙂🌱

Water, warmth, and dead organic matter. You’ve got growth! But it’s totally normal and happens all the time. Just rinse it off when you change the water and do the same when it grows again. Lol

That’s dead plant material sloughing off into the water. Just change the water once every couple weeks
