Alternatives for my front lawn

Hi everyone, I’m considering alternatives for my front lawn (just the grassy area) and wanted to get your thoughts. My biggest pain point about this long grass is that it gets patchy, and honestly looks bad half the year, as I don’t give it the attention & love it should get to keep green. Half of it sits under shade and the other in full sun, and then with neighborhood dogs peeing on it etc, it’s more time than I’d like to spend maintaining it. Any recommendation on something tasteful that I could replace it with? Above that lawn is a bunch of plants and I really love them. Not sure if it matters, but that grassy area is sloped down slightly.

Note that I’m located in the Bay Area in California

Clover should be dog urine resistant. But I have yet to test it out and some species don’t like shade.
