Container Gardening

My balcony garden

5b gardening zone but the herbs will be inside this fall! I think I finally mastered my container garden this year. Left to right: Green Santolina (a new interesting one I found so…what the heck let’s plant it) garlic chives, chives, cayenne peppers, oregano, Tabasco peppers, thyme, sage, tumbling Tom tomatoes, basil, rosemary, peppermint, and zucchini. I think I may have overwatered the peppermint and basil and I harvested some basil today so I’m monitoring those two but I’m pretty happy so far. Also petunias to attract a hummingbird I saw a few weeks ago. I’ve seen him again but he runs off if I’m sitting out here.

Also it’s been 90+ out here for weeks so is that why I have no female zucchini flowers or am I missing pollinators? I’m thinking of trying native wildflowers in the railing boxes next year.

I’ve read that zucchini only produce male flowers for a few weeks and that seems to be what mine are doing. Just noticed my first females forming a few days ago though!
