Caudex

Help with Fockea

I am a plant person and inherited this Fockea(?) from my grandmother. The caudex is buried under an insane mess of vines but it’s there and is sitting above soil level. I have seen some amazing specimens on this sub and wanted to ask for any suggestions on the best route for displaying this? Currently it’s just been doing its thing and it’s starting to flower again, so it’s happy. Should I leave it be? Love to hear any feedback!

In addition, last year it grew a seed pod (second pic) though I have no clue how because I only have one of these plants. Are Fockea monoecious? I’ve never seen another example of this before so I would love some more info if anybody has any!

Pretty sure they’re dioecious. They’re fairly tough, if it were me I’d chop about 95% of the vines off, choosing where to make the cuts with an eye to how it’ll look when the new growth comes. Give it a little bit of time to recover from that, maybe once there’s new shoots coming, then unpot it, sluice away all the soil and see what you’ve got to play with. Then you can decide if/how you want to stage it, or if you want to just bury it in a bigger pot to get more size on it.

Personally I’d be taking the plant out of the pot to have a look at the caudex. You can potentially repot it higher above the soil to expose the chunky boi.

The other consideration is to trim the roots so the caudex continues to get bigger.
