Can anyine help me help my dad idenify why his tree is dying

not sure if it has anything to do with the deep cuts bleeding out or not, but figured I'd show it just in case

It looks like you just need to prune away the dead branches

We’re on reddit, so that means it is planted too deeply. The root flare [must be exposed](https://imgur.com/gallery/zkn1ZfO).

Thousands of posts on the tree subs from homeowners exposing the root flares, often with pictures and often misspelled as ‘flair’.

It looks like the graft might be failing due to it being planted too deep. On a red maple that young you should still be able to see where the trunk was grafted to the root stock. That graft needs to be above ground.
