She gave me this huge vase thing, I transported it dry and then refilled it with RODI water and just a little squirt of aquarium plant fertilizer (aquarium coop easy green). She told me to change the water once a week. Is this gonna work? Looks like it has one little root going.

It will work, but the narrow opening of the vase will have the plant locked in by the roots in a few months and you’ll have to break the vase to get it out.
I agree about using a vessel with a wider opening to prevent an issue later. I prefer to just top off the water so that I don’t toss the auxins. Those are the rooting hormones given off by the plant. Replacing the water washes away the auxins that have accumulated, so I recommend topping it off instead. Keep it in a spot with really good light so that it has the energy to grow. 💚
