15 year old sugar maple(?) in Seattle area with crown decline. Direct sun for 8 hours or more. Poorly planted?

This maple started struggling a couple years ago after two years of 85-95 degree Fahrenheit heatwaves lasting a week or three in the summer. One or two days each year were over 100 degrees.

My landlord is saying I don’t water it enough. I water it every three days as he instructed and spent thousands of dollars on water last year and this tree looks bad anyways.

I believe it was planted in a bad spot and the other other plants are taking moisture from the soil. I also believe the elevated dirt and concrete blocks being blasted by the sun for 8 hours a day is a factor.

Am I responsible for this trees poor health, or did it never have a real chance?

    Wait what

  2. Looks like it’s still alive. There’s like 100 Japanese maple in my neighborhood, some have more color variation because of sun stress, so this seems normal to me.
