I want to slip pot this dawn redwood, should I loosen the roots just a bit?

Just brought it home and it’s super root bound. My plan was to slip pot it but I feel like I need to loosen up just a small bit of the outside roots. I live in a 10a zone, we’re not getting affected by the heatwave, this week’s temps shouldn’t surpass 77 degrees.

I believe the plant would benefit from it if you did loosen the roots up somewhere.

The large roots that wind around horizontally are the most concerning. I would saw off an inch from the bottom and see if I can gently flair the roots out from the bottom. Then see if you can unwind some of the thick roots on top. They can be cut off if there aren’t a lot of fine feeder roots attached.
