Is he going to die?

Found this little guy in my backyard a few days ago, he came back today and it looks like a stray cat got to him. I have ivermectin and amoxicillin but I don’t know if it’s worth it. His right eye is popping out and looks infected, but on the bright side he’s been inhaling some watermelon. What should I do?

I’d take him to a rehab center or vet

Teach him how to knife fight so he can get revenge

Take him to the vet, let them teach him knife-fighting. They’re professionals.

Oddly enough, we found a opossum in a similar state with one eye damaged. We took him to a rehabber who gave him some antibiotics and painkillers and he made a full recovery.

It does only look like a surface infection of the eye, so most likely antibiotics will set it right, but I would take it to a wildlife rehab to make sure there’s no infection going into the skull. If you’re dead set in trying to treat it yourself, the eye will need irrigation with saline solution, and here is a link to amoxicillin dosing in opossums—it’s near the bottom of the page:

FWIW, they’re damn near blind to begin with and rely on their nose and ears way more than their eyes, so a proper dose of antibiotics should leave it with a pretty full lifespan (which is only 3-5 years for a wild opossum). I’ve raised 1 to adulthood, 2 babies to release-size, and cared for an elderly animal ambassador opossum that took meds everyday until the end lol. They’re resilient, but are better than cats at hiding pain.

Wild life rehab or let him back out and let nature take its course

Call your local wild life rehab center before heading out to make sure they’ll take him in
