Plant Propagation

First time propagating

That's a root right? This piece fell off my inch plant so I threw it in a vase about a week ago. This is the first time I'm trying to propagate so I'm surprised it's working. Any tips to go from here?

It definitely looks like a root! Remember to change your water sometimes! I usually do that when the water looks dirty or when it’s been around a week or more since the last time I changed it! And to clean your container so that algae doesn’t grow on it! I also heard some people say to not fully change the water because some plants overtime release root hormones in the water, and by completely changing it, you waste it, but everyone has their opinions ofc! I usually leave a little bit of the old water and then pour some new one! Hope it keeps growing new roots!

These guys root like crazy, and many times you don’t even need to propagate them in water. Pop them right in soil or back into the mother plant’s pot, and they’re good to go. But they are fun to water propagate and totally a good method. As a general rule for most plants, wait to pot them until the roots get about 2” long, and no need to wait much longer than that. Once planted, keep the soil moderately moist for the first 1-2 weeks.
