Tan/white discoloring and thin arms on euphorbia inermis – thoughts?

I’ve had the plant for at least a couple of years and have noticed a pattern where the exterior arms tend to narrow out, shrivel, and become discolored while the newer, interior arms look nice and healthy until they start growing more.

I’ve assumed some of the yellow/reddish discoloring is from intense direct sunlight in the summer months and that the more central, tan patches were a natural callusing but have wondered why they get so narrow and am now wondering if some of the tan discoloration are signs of another issue. Does anyone have any ideas or experience?

I recently repotted it for the the first time along with some others that were overdue for some more space. I’ve also traditionally steered away from watering it more than once every 2-3 weeks in the summer (since I’ve run into root rot with euphorbias before) but now have been watering every 1-2 weeks.
