I have mine in pots raised up, my dog ate mine the first year. i also chop them and put them in vases when they are ready

It’s slugs. I can see at least one in the picture. You can use nematodes or you can just systematically genocide them by picking them off every night and killing them in your preferred way. I use jar of salty water – drop slugs and snails in, strain once full, dump slugs in brown bin, repeat.
Some people use beer traps, some people just sprinkle salt, some people snip/hoe them. Some use pellets but this is toxic for slug predators as well, so I avoid it now to not harm our resident hedgehog.
