Landscaping

What would you guys do here to get make it look cleaner around the pool?

I just bought this house, I don’t really want to drop 100k (Florida prices) at this time on the backyard and some elaborate masterpiece of a backyard.

Think just getting rid of these rock beds and adding more pavers and big vases with plants in them? Yes I know getting rid of the limbs and brush my son and I will start that today. (Tree trimming). Thank you for those that respond. I have zero eye for this kind of stuff.

  1. Some plants to add color along the fence would look great.

First step is definitely cleaning. Needs a power wash. You can torch the weeds in the pavers and in the rocks. I think some potted plants will look nice, but you may have to move them for hurricanes, so I prefer putting things in the ground.

For some color I would pick some drought tolerant plants like dune sunflower (fast-growing ground cover), ixora, bougainvillea, plumbago, or oleander. For some tropical greenery you could go with muhly grass, clusia, or sea grapes. Those are just some of my favorite full-sun options. Any of these you won’t really have to water after they’re established.

Check the downspouts/gutters. See if it’s possible for water to flow somewhere other than the mulch. Or chnage mulch to stones.

On another note, my waterfall does that to a ball too. I can stare at it for hours on end.

Everything usually falls into place once the cleaning starts. You’ll be getting an idea once you start, then you’ll get another when your halfway though. It’s all a process, but definitely do it the YOU would.

Get some 30% vinegar from Home Depot to kill the weeds in the rocks if you don’t have time to pull them. They make some spray adhesives that stiffen up mulch and such so it doesn’t flow during heavy rain. Otherwise a nice pressure wash would help out the surfaces around your pool as well. Lots of potential!

Whoever owned the home before did absolutely no maintenance.

I would reach out to some landscape contractors and get some quotes on repairing the uneven pavers. Weed control and power wash will definitely help appearance wise in the meantime. Some shrubs in the plant beds would help a lot too.

More balls under the waterfall obviously! But also i guess you could get your pool chem checked then follow their instructions exactly if you can. Clear some brush, weed, tidy the beds and sidewalks consider lighting for the night and i think your pretty much there.

  11. Get rid of the weeds, plant some nice flower beds, and put some potted plants around.

Weeding and plant some native plants. If you plant a few 1 gallon plants a month you’ll be surprised how fast it fills out.
