I found this on the floor at Walmart I have no idea what it is but I love it, I came home and popped it in some water. Any tips when do I put in soil? Anybody know what it is? Can I even get roots this way?
I’m no expert but it could be a tradescantia. If it is, just keep it in water for a while, these things grow like weeds. Wait until you have secondary roots then put it in soil

wait till there are secondary roots. If it roots and recoverable, they grow quickly with enough light

Red Dude! He’ll likely root. I have 8 zebrina shoots I’m trying to prop, 6 look likely and 2 don’t. That bend is a great sign, my dude hits a shelf and tries to start propagating it, I’m like “those books really tied the room together”.

I’ve stopped propagating mine in water, I just put it soil and it does really well. Grows really fast, so you can trim it and put the cuttings in soil again to thicken it up.

Throw her on top of some soil, give her some water and ignore her…lol I did this with a piece of mine that fell off my mother plant, it’s has almost overtaken the giant pot I threw it in just to see what would happen. Bright, indirect light!

Tradescantia in general do really well in water or soil. Congratulations!! That’s a really pretty one… if a bit rough 😅 if you do stay the water route (and if that’s one cutting with a bare bend?) I would make sure none of the leaves are in water and all of the cuttings are “bottom down” in the water!
