welcome to H tube my name is JN putam this is the first video in a very detailed tour video where I’m going to go through pretty much every plant in the garden talk about how it’s performed in the garden give you some information about it maybe it’s something you want to add to your uh Garden there are a lot of plants in this Garden if you’ve not followed along with the channel there are actually like 372 species uh that was a really rough count that I gave one day and uh it’s probably near 900 plants out here actually individual plants there are lots of annuals perennials shrubs trees uh things we’ve done trees and shrubs that we’ve done interesting things to uh that kind of thing uh I’ve got the Drone up above uh as you can see and I think you can probably see where I’m standing here in the front garden I’m going to uh when I walk around here bring the uh drone in here closer to the front garden and just talk about first of all the paths uh that are out here and how this was uh how this was done this area then you can see me moving up into the uh middle of it there uh this was a Turf area last year and we we came in here got rid of the turf added the uh annual borders uh and some perennials as well in here this area is definitely not finished planting yet the area back up here toward the foundation behind where the bench is definitely has a lot of opportunity uh you can see the the empty space out here this was just new space that was gained this year by getting some construction done on the house foundation painted all those kinds of things uh so again there’s a lot of opportunity there but this path system that’s in the front garden you know basically I’ve got this you know coming in from the street here you know through the little fence that was was built you know you can come directly to the uh you can come directly to the front door or you can turn go this way and this path goes all the way around the house we’ll take a look at that in just a minute and then a little path that goes to the bench over there and then there’s a narrow path here that I’m going to change in the future to some other type of material but for now this is the way um this is the way it’s been for a while and it goes you know goes over here to the driveway and across this driveway area we have a border along the edge of the city’s property right here with uh lots of flowering things this is where our blueberries are and several other things we’re going to break this Garden down into little quadrants so you know one video may just be this piece along the uh this driveway extension piece cuz there are I don’t know how many plants are just in this spot it’s a lot and so you know we’ll uh uh you know again we’re going to go plant we’re going to go plant to plant and then I’ll divide the front garden into you know into into blocks maybe this is a block uh right here uh let’s see see as we uh I’m going to walk to the uh back to the Back Garden around the house I’m pretty flown this drone for a long time but it’s still not the easiest thing when you’re trying to talk at the same time at the same time while you’re doing it but we’ll walk from here along this front Garden Path there’s a path here for the for the mailman so the mailman can go to my neighbor’s house we have a walking mail route and then a path that goes here probably will lose me as I go around this side of the house Holly She’ll follow me She’ll follow me around here once she figures out I’m going I bet you guys can probably see her on the path somewhere before I can now I should come into view in the back garden and I’ll set this uh set this camera down and let me grab her real quick Holly’s back with me here but so the patio went in this year and it’s just mixed materials it was some leftover stones from some other things all the bricks were recycled here on the property and the the trail system again coming from that side area I think you can still see me walking here I’m going to come in closer into the uh into the back Garden a little bit there so you can see you I can come around here and the way I did the the way I did the patio was the stone goes to any place where you can exit it so there there’s Stone here and there’s Stone going to this path and then there’s Stone going to here where the bird there’s a bird feeder here and then there’s Stone going here to this path and then Stone going into the inside so basically it’s just Five Points there for the where the stone goes and everything else was filled in everything else was filled in with brick the trail system again I want to be able to man one of the main things you know in garden design is to be able to maintain it so where the uh van is parked you know we can dump mulch or wood chips or whatever over here on the side uh let me uh get a little wider view here we can dump stuff down here on the driveway you know and then basically wheelbarrow it into that front through that path system or wheelbarrow it through here the paths are made of wood chips the Browner darker spaces here are hardwood Mulch and the path system allows you to you know navigate you know over here to the uh over here to the building right and then around the back by having an extra path back here in the back I’m able to make these beds smaller and it’s easier to design with the beds they not 40 or 50 ft deep uh to have a little extra path through them allows you to put in some smaller material and some other interesting things but this path comes around through here and you know back to the patio and the dogs like walking on the wood chips uh I like walking uh I like walking on the wood chips they’re soft so you know all of this is soft the wheelbarrows actually roll pretty well on it you wouldn’t think it would but once it packs down there’s also because we keep adding wood chips to these pths the pths are higher than the beds so where I’m standing is higher than the beds and so when it rains the water is going into the plants and not into my paths a lot of just walk the paths down so much that the paths become low and that becomes the way the water gets out of your garden is by leaving your plants going into your paths and uh racing off so again we’re going to divide uh all of these spaces I’ll go back let me show you another view along this Edge same thing over here there’s an extension you know along the drive along the end of the the driveway this is where all the D A lot of the dalas are and then right in front of me here is the vegetable garden uh everything over there looking pretty good we’ll go through in this set of tour videos all the tomatoes we used I think we have certainly over 10 varieties of tomatoes and there’s a lot of them ready out there um talk about you know how the you know which ones we like so far this early in the uh in the season and we’ll break this thing down and give you a detailed View so let me get this down here a little further in here there you go there’s a uh a look down on the uh a look down directly on the patio so thank you guys very much again this was just I wanted to do an overhead view of the garden and here’s some uh a little bit of video on how far this has actually come from the original Drone footage that I had up above the garden uh and it’s been 4 years in the making but we’ve pretty much got everything laid out like we’d want but we actually have quite a few more things we’re going to be doing some compost uh related things and other projects that we’re going to be doing uh perhaps not before this year is over uh but in the future we have several more plans and uh several more opportunities actually out here in the garden and we’ll discuss that during these tour videos so again we’re going to break it down into blocks and talk about every plant in the garden so let’s get started in next video

  1. Thanks for sharing this – and the shots of the yard when you first started. What I find interesting about your garden (and mine) is that adding beds and paths make the space seem larger. I look forward to seeing the details 💚

  2. The beds up next to your house look so large. Had no idea you had that much plantng space up there. It will be fun to see what you add to that location.

  3. Can’t wait…you are a master gardener & designer. I do see Stephanie’s touches & expertise as well. Great team!

  4. Wow you have really been working hard and it shows! Beautiful garden ! What kind of camper van do you have? Does it have solar panels on top? Thanks for showing us the garden by drone !

  5. Hi Jim and Stephanie! This drone view was AWESOME!! I love where you are going with creating islands and "rooms", and you did such an AMAZING job on your patio. I love the mix of stone and bricks. When I moved here (it will be 2 yrs. In October) as soon as I stepped out into the back yard, it was nasty muddy mess. We took your advice and added shredded mulch all the way down that north side of the yard and it is a raised hard pathway with no mud… YAY!! Thank you for sharing all your knowledge with us. I am always learning, and never missing any of your videos. And slowly but surely I check out your "b4 Jen found you" videos! Lol 😂 💜🙏💜

  6. What a difference from when you started. How do you keep the weeds out. I am always mulching and pulling weeds/grass. Urghh.

  7. Good afternoon guys! Jim just two statements then a question. First, your landscape and beds are phenomenal. The difference in 4 yrs is unbelievable. My statements are to mention that I appreciate the wealth of knowledge you and Stephanie bring to your channel. Especially the last couple of episodes. Your explanation of the differences of soils we all have to understand and work with was one of if not the best explanations to your
audience in any of your episodes. Also the watering episode was so in depth it made me go a cultivate as much as I could in our vegetable garden because of the drought conditions we’re experiencing now in central Virginia. Our bed got compacted but now it seems to be doing great since I’ve increased my watering. As for my my question it’s simple…
What happened to your water feature in backyard?

    Kinda miss it!

  8. So did you not fence the backyard because it's city land beyond or for sun exposure and using the plants as your screen?

  9. An absolutely stunning transformation! Love all of the paths leading to your patio where you have utilized an array of material to create this unique & beautiful hardscape. Looking forward to the breakdown of each 'room'.

  10. I don't remember you mentioning that brick driveway. Did you did you lay those bricks yourself? I did something similar at my first house including a patio and I can tell you I lost my fingerprints for about a year afterwards. Looks great.

  11. It's amazing to see the before, which I would consider a small yard to the after which with all the plants looks so large. Beautiful!

  12. I love the overhead view of everything. I didn't realize that you had a path that goes all the way around the house from the front to the back. It has come a long way and looks beautiful.❤❤

  13. Thank you so much for the drone footage. It really helped me see your garden. I love your patio. It reminds me of a patchwork quilt.

  14. The garden has come so far. I’ve found in my own garden , the part I’m responsible for (it was my mother in laws garden before me) that I have difficulty with a plan. Some things seem pretty obvious but others I struggle with. Mainly placement of plants and misjudging the size some will get. It seems I love mostly large plants but something must go in the front of that bed. You always inspire me to look for better options. Thanks

  15. Great overview. Great way to orient us to the entire space. What an amazing transformation. Loved seeing the before photo. Looking forward to the in depth plant videos.🥰🏡

  16. Such a cool perspective with the moving drone video. Y'all's garden looks great, and the drone video really helps to explain plant spacing and placement. Looking forward to the detailed tours.

  17. Thank you! So much work went into garden and it's beautiful 😍 you have really helped me and so many others create our very own clown college gardens!
