#raisedbedgardening #kingbirdgardenbed #kingbirdgardenbedreview

welcome back to Once Upon A Tiny Farm my name’s Drew and this is who Matthew and today we’re going to put together another one of our Kingbird metal garden beds and we’re going to fill up this we’re going to put this bed together we’re going to fill it up with soil and then we’re going to be connecting this metal ra raised bed to another raised bed that we did in a previous video with a garden trellis that looks very much like this one behind me because we’re going to be um trellising these grape um vines that are going to be planted that are planted right in front of these beds and I’ll show you a way that you could very easily use a cattle panel to make a really awesome trellis to connect your metal garden beds so here we go all right taking this out of the package it’s pretty simple after putting this one together um you’ll see that these 3×6 metal raised beds they have three curved Corners here and that makes up one of the ends and the other three make up the other ends and these two make up the sides so that’s a good thing to know so you know where they go and you don’t struggle too much putting these together so I already did this in another video we’re going to put this together real quick and then get to filling it up okay this time it took maybe 5 minutes to put that together that was not very difficult and a real good benefit to purchasing these king bird garden beds which I’ll put a link down below for you guys to check them out if you’re interested very good prices I believe for metal garden bed and uh I think it looks really nice now this is the way to do it beneath all this straw that I just added here is a whole bunch of decaying sticks and logs and it looks like a lot of straw but we’re going to layer on a whole heavy amount of soil on top of this and it’s going to push this down and this is going to take up a lot of volume in this bed but it’s also going to break down over time and help with with water retention in the bed so this is our new raised bed here that we filled this morning there’s the other king bird race bed that we filmed the other day and we are going to create a cattle panel trellis like the other one connecting these other two race beds right next to it and and you’re going to need a few things first you’re going to need a 16t long cattle panel got this a tractor supply about $36 and I want to thank the nice people at Tractor Supply for uh loading it up into my truck it wasn’t very fun to fit in there and thank you very much for that cattle panel and two tsts on one side two toost on the other now these I want to say are about eight feet apart maybe it’s 10 feet I haven’t measured in a while I believe it’s more like 10 feet so what I have here is a little grape Tre grape vine here and a grape vine here so I’m going to basically do the same thing where I have grape Vines there and there and have them grow up this trellis so basically these I like you can see what I’ve done here these aren’t technically inside the bed they’re right in front of the bed you could put these tsts right inside the bed and that would make actually a lot more sense especially if you were trying to Trellis something in that bed like a squash or cucumber or something and it would be a lot easier for the crop to catch onto the toost but it’s going to still be right in front of the raised beds on both sides here but I think a better way to do would put the tsts right on the inside of these beds so that would be the best way to truly connect these cattle panel four t-posts and some zip ties [Music] [Music] now this would be easier and a lot better if I had these taller t-posts I think these were 6ft tall t-posts these I believe are only four so you would have more uh it would just be a lot easier with that extra height but I’m going to make this work cuz this is what I have and I didn’t feel like buying more things at the store and uh let’s just try to make this work this is not always an easy thing probably something you should do with some help which I might need so I like to use some these are needle nose pliers kind of get in here and open up these little uh notches here because that makes it really easy at least for this first side to get on because you can just have them kind of sit and wedged in there and I’ll do the same thing to the other [Music] [Music] side I really messed up the shape of this cattle panel trying to fit it in my truck so really hoping that in time this will straighten out the way that I want it to look [Music] all right we got that up now that got a little bit bent just from the way that it got into my truck and I’m hoping that over time this part of the bed will even out because this actually isn’t the trellis that I wanted I wanted a differ size cattle panel um this is a 50in wide by 16 ft long and I wanted this one is a 34 in wide that I did on my first cattle panel trellis still 16 ft long but 34 in wide because I like that these beds are about 3 ft long and that matches the the same width of the bed and it was just a little bit more easy to bend and handle because it wasn’t as wide but they didn’t have any of these in stock but this one I really wanted to have the same one to match it but this one I think will have to do it is very heavy it’s very strong I could almost I’m not going to hang on it but I could hang on the top if I really wanted to but you can get the idea this is a really easy way to Trellis two beds together and I really like the way that it looks connecting these two beds from Kingbird it looks really nice and um this is something that anybody anybody could do and there’s all different kind of variations of how you could arrange your trellis um depending on how far apart your your beds are for instance if I move this bed a little bit further back this way we could do a a trellis connecting these from the side um um something like that would be kind of neat um uh kind of be a trell it would be a trellist walkway um if these beds were further apart you could connect them with a trellis something like that but I really like the way these looked I would have preferred that it was the same one as that it’s a little bit wider as you could tell but it’s okay and what I’ve actually planted in this kingb bird bed is not actually not these weeds um I believe this right here is a loofah gourd and on this side here get rid of the weeds that’s a cantaloupe and even though I do have these here for my grapes uh The Grapes I don’t believe these are the first year that I planted these grapes I don’t think they’re going to really climb this trellis much this year so I am hoping that as these this loofah and cantaloup grow I’m going to use this trellis for that as well to at least use the space and on this other bed over here I do have plans to plant a lot of sweet potato because I’ve got tons of sweet po potato slips and it’s getting a little bit late to plant the sweet potatoes but along this edge here I think I will plant either another squash or pumpkin or something that will climb um up this trellis because again the oh that doesn’t even look that good the the it’s a lakem grape it’s a green grape those that’s what the same variety the other one is as well um they’re not really going to be doing much climbing this year up here but I’m hoping that for next year the these are a year Behind These grapes and these grapes did a lot of climbing this year we do have our first little clusters down here these are conquered seedless conquered grapes they haven’t turned purple yet but I would love I will love to see this whole area of cater panel cattle panel filled with grape Vines it’ll be a cool place to hide when the weather is hot like it is right now um that was not an easy thing to do in the heat and humidity but something I’ve wanted to get done for a while glad that I got that done um I’m going to work on evening out this side I don’t like how it’s a little bit messed up from getting shoved into the back of my truck but I think in time it’ll it’ll even out to a nice more even um half circle like my first trus has so all right that’s going to wrap up this video on how to make your own trellis connecting two raised beds uh I hope you enjoyed this video if you did please give this video a thumbs up subscribe to our Channel if you’re new here and also make sure to check out the link below down to kingb Bird’s uh metal raised beds they’re really nice really good value highly recommend them have two of them now connected by trellis and I’m really happy about that so anybody could do this really simple cater padle trellis thank you all for watching and we’ll see you in the next one

  1. I was looking forward to this video! The cattle panel trellis connecting the two beds, whether Kingbird or your board bed is a great idea. I bet the metal will straighten out over time, with the weight of vegetation, but if not, the grapes/melons/ pumpkins will for sure hide any flaws!
