Am I over watering milkweed?

I installed drip irrigation last week and I have it set to water every two days because most of what I planted this year is new (including this plant), but I noticed my milkweed has been starting to wilt. Am I over watering or is this something else? I am in southeast Ohio

  1. I am terrible with directions, I am in southWEST Ohio, not southeast.

When was it a planted? Imo you should never water just to water and should always check the moisture level of the soil before watering. Get yourself a moisture meter. They’re less than 20 bucks. Stick it two inches in to see what there soil is like.

I want my plants, especially if they have been planted for over a month, to be growing their roots and reaching for moisture.

  3. i answered someone else with this problem yesterday (check my post history for a more detailed response) but in my experience, as someone with numerous happy, healthy butterflyweeds: stop watering it. let the rain take care of it. they like it hot and dry.

Butterfly milkweed really hate water. The few times I’ve had one need water, it was clear because it started to droop. It bounced back pretty immediately after just a medium watering. In short, let butterfly weed let you know if it needs water. They’re tough when it comes to droughts.

Every two days is probably too much for these guys.
