Should I Repot My Baby Calathea’s?

Hi everyone!

So about two weeks ago I got 3 baby Calathea’s from a well known nursery in my area. I believe I have a pin-stripe, triostar and a white fusion. They all look healthy and are growing new leaves, although my white fusion is the only one that’s leaves are yellowing on the tips slightly and I’m not sure why.

I do water them about twice a week so I always keep the soil moist and I do use filtered water but the current soil doesn’t contain any perlite or pumice which may be causing the soggy soil issue which might be causing the white fusion to have yellow wilted tips? They are currently all in 7cm wide plastic nursery pots and I have some of the same pots but they are 9cm wide and was wondering if I should repot them?

I’m worried they will die after I repot them, but the soil they are currently in doesn’t have and perlite or pumice and I do however want to add some to the soil mix to help with drainage. I don’t know what to do and I can’t tell if they need repotting so if someone could please help me I’d be very grateful and so would my calathea’s! Thanks.

They all look like they’re doing good. It looks like a lot of roots, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they need a repot. You can’t be having a soggy soil issue if you need to water more than once a week.

If you’re watering thoroughly and the soil is drying out entirely in just a few days then you might need to put them into a slightly larger pot. You don’t need to disturb anything, get a pot 1 inch larger put a bit of soil in the bottom and poke the plant in. Then fill around the edges.

Yellowing tips can be due to humidity. Please understand that misting, water trays, and even humidifiers are not very effective. A humidifier can be effective in a tightly enclosed environment, otherwise they moisture will diffuse to every corner of your space and not make much of a net gain.
