How to get Fig Tree to Produce Fruit?

This fig tree was here when we moved into our house. It was cut back a lot, but still generally wide at the base. I’m pretty young and this is my first time having a house and taking care of trees so I didn’t do anything to it until early this spring when I cut some of the branches like halfway?

It has gotten HUGE now and doesn’t produce fruit. Almost all the tiny fig trees around my neighborhood do. Can someone help determine why – different variety (heard something about male / female trees).

If you think it is possible, how should I go about getting this tree to produce fruit next year?
