Caudex

Stephania sp. Nova dormancy and care questions

Hey!

I bought this Stephania sp. Nova (kaweesaki) two months ago and I’m kinda worried about the care I’m supposed to give in order to get it out of dormancy… the look of the caudex is so weird, it looks like a piece of wood, is bone dry (like I could peel pieces of it if I wanted) and has a weird ass shape which makes it hard to understand the best position to plant it in the substrate. I know it’s not that long since I got it, but I need some advices!

Right now it sits in a gritty mix, in this more than shallow « pot », and is in my cabinet (approx 60% humidity and 25-29 degrees Celsius for temperature) under grow lights. The mix dries very fast. It’s not my first caudex, I have a few, but never had a stephania before.

What do you think? 🤔

Thanks 💕

These are usually poached from the wild. So it’s had a pretty long and hard dormancy caused by trading before it arrived to you.

Probably just needs time, but most of these do arrive in the customers care in pretty poor condition

No exp of Nova but Stephania erecta can be brought out of dormancy with a warm water soak for an hour
