Snake Plant is Dropping and Leaves are Curling and Soft

I am unsure what the best course of action is for this snake plant. It's been through a few phases of under watering and perhaps some over watering. The leaves have been in this state for awhile and I'm unsure if it's healthy or not at this point. It faces a south window and I water it about every 3 weeks.

I’m not seeing yellowing so i’m more prone to say underwatered. a snake plant that’s extremely thirsty will start wrinkling and softening from the oldest leaves while the newest are still firm. you can completely douse this plant I think. took 3 days for the soft leaves on mine to become firm again when this happened to me.

If the soil is wet it may be too much water. Shouldn’t need to water till dry soil. No need to do a schedule.

Snake plants also LOVE to be under potted, this pot looks very large for this plant.

My snake plant was so thirsty!

Last summer I had to water it once or twice a week sometimes! (It’s indoors but I have bad insulation so it’s way hotter in summer)

How are you watering yours? I would sit mine in a bowl of water for 15 mins or so and let it absorb as much water as it wants, then pull it out and put it back on the shelf, then don’t water again until it’s dry to halfway down the pot or lower (I use a little skewer to rest if I’m unsure)

I did notice with some of my Miracle Gro soil, it became hydrophobic after a while so if I didn’t soak it, the water ran right thru the dry soil and the plant got nothing 😭

If yours has any mushy stems near the soil, it’s probably overwatered, but I agree it looks underwatered to me (wrinkly and limp near the top but firmer near the base)

In severe cases of underwatering, you can soak it for an hour or overnight before letting it dry completely and repeating if necessary. For yours, if it is indeed underwatered after you check base and roots, I’d probably start with half an hour and see if it perks up. Good luck!
