Plant Propagation

Reviving my Begonia

  • My Problem:
My girlfriend bought me this beautiful begonia(?) plant but told me if I let it die she will never buy me another plant so now I urgently need some help!
For context: they were once potted in normal soil, and I only watered them when the soil was completely dried up. Some day I realised that more and more flowers seem to die off each day so I took a look at the roots and I was hit by horror…black, rotten roots everywhere! (my suspicion: it wasn’t watered appropriately at the plant shop). After cutting away more and more of the roots in search of some healthy ones I was soon left with none at all so I just gave it a clean cut at the very bottom to get rid of all the roots and to prevent stem rot.

  • My Question:
How can I make it grow new roots? Will it grow new ones from the very bottom of the stem where the previous roots were?
I have them in water right now hoping I can water propagate them…

Thank y'all for your help in advance!!

Think this looks possibly like a geranium but could be a begonia, not an expert. Recommend if you’re trying to water propagate to not change the water but I have no experience propagating this species for more specific advice

This is a wax begonia, you will need smaller cuttings, no flowers to help roots along. Rooting hormone powder can also help. This fibrous begonias are painstaking to grow from seed, but are pretty inexpensive to purchase if you had to replace it.
