how do you feel sitting here right now about playing that last show of The Residency that has meant so much to you in a building that is the mecca especially for people who grew up in the New York area how are you feeling about the end of that run well I’m kind of sad that it’s ending you know 10 years in Madison Square Garden is beyond you know my dreams as a as a musici uh we were the house band for 10 years at the Garden which I think is the best performance venue in in the world I’ve been all over the world I’ve played all kinds of stadiums Arenas coliseums theaters the garden is the best sound and it’s in New York which is usually a crazy audience and they make a lot of noise and we have fun we have a lot of fun at the Garden doesn’t mean I’ll never play there again it just means it’s the end of this run it’s actually the 150th Lifetime show there which is seems like a good round number to to stop yeah so January of 2014 you start this run in your dreams was it ever going to last a full decade and go on and on the way it has no I had no idea it would last this long I thought there would be an arc we kind of peak and then we kind of drop off but that hasn’t happened they’re buying more tickets recently than they were at the beginning so we could have kept going but I thought after 10 years like you know okay all right already well that’s what I was going to ask you I mean it’s selling better than it ever has they’ve all been sold out yes StubHub says it’s the hottest ticket of the summer of any musician the hardest one to get all of that so any second thoughts about ending something that’s going so well yeah a lot of them a lot of second thoughts it’s kind of sad because we could have kept going but I didn’t want to outstay my welcome you know this is one of those businesses where if you don’t know when to leave they’re going to kick you out hey thanks for watching don’t miss the Today show every weekday at 11:00 a.m. eastern 8 Pacific on our streaming Channel today all day to watch head to today.com allay or click the link right here

  1. What a legend – played for three hours in Denver last night – kept 45k people (of ALL ages) on their feet for three hours in 100 degree heat. Voice and energy are flawless – what a national treasure.

  2. Let the face go naturally as you age, folks! Even the best plastic surgery money can buy just doesn’t seem real…..

  3. He already did. I have seen him about 15 times over the years , last 3 at the Garden during his residency. He is a shell of his former self
