What’s wrong with my bushes?

Hi everyone. we have a hedge of these bushes that were looking beautiful until a few weeks ago. Now they’re turning brown and have leaves dying off.

I can’t think of anything that may have caused this — other than some native fertiliser pellets that I sprinkled on a few months ago.

Any ideas what may be happening here and how to fix it?
