Tomato storage

One of the things that has always been an issue is how to store the tomato harvest once it starts coming in hot and heavy. My solution in previous years was to put them n trays on the table in the dining room. Unfortunately, that room is about 72° during the day, so the tomatoes didn’t keep as long as I would like and the fruit fly infestations were sometimes epic. This year I have moved them to a wire shelving unit in the basement. The temp is in the low 60°s and the humidity is significantly lower. In case anyone was wondering, the baskets are from Dollar Tree and I use them for holding seedlings in the spring, they hold 12 4” pots, and tomatoes/peppers in the summer.
