Advice needed. I’ve been following the instructions on tag but my plant is dying

Any advice on how to care for this plant. Was given 2 as gift, first one started fading and the other was good… now they are both wilting and flowers are shriveled up and I really want to save them!
Please help!!
I have been letting the soil dry out before giving it water and not much. I was advised NOT to mist it with water but also read that I should. It is indoors close to a large window, gets late sun. It is in a plastic pot with holes, placed inside this decorative planter.
Haven’t reported it because I’m afraid to kill it for real 🙁

Thank you for posting to r/plantclinic!

It looks like you may be asking about a cactus or succulent. In addition to any advice you receive here, please consider visiting r/cactus r/succulents for more specialized care advice.

A common problem with cacti and succulents is etiolation. This is when a succulent stretches or becomes leggy. Reply with “!etiolation” for advice.

  2. The dead leaves at the base and the way the leaves are curling make me think you might not be watering enough which could also be a result of the pot being too small and drying out quickly. The flowers however are completely normal. Most houseplants that flower will go through phases of flowering and not flowering, they don’t just flower infinitely. Your plant was happy enough to make flowers in the first place, which is a good sign, and now they’re simply getting old and falling off. Not the prettiest but completely normal and expected

You are right misting isn’t helpful.

When you water you should water thoroughly, make sure the soil absorbs all of the moisture. Then leave the plant to dry out.

Don’t worry much about the flowers, they don’t last forever. It’s best to trim them away when they begin to dry out. This will encourage more flowers to grow.

You really should be mindful of the foliage. If it’s getting soft or wrinkly then the plant needs a good soak. You can put the plant into a basin with a couple of inches of water and let it absorb from the bottom. This ensures the soil is actually absorbing the water and it’s not just running through.
