  1. It’s called the root flare and you’re still doing it wrong. You don’t want to create a donut around the trunk or it’ll rot the trunk and roots. The mulch starts at the root flare and grades downward.

  2. Agree This is the same approach I've seen in county and city parks in Northern Louisiana where the heat is extreme July-September. If anything the circumference of the mulch bed is wider than shown in this video. A preferred mulch here is shredded cyprus, non-dyed and that is what I use on my fruit trees.

  3. Shouldnt use black. It super heats from the sun. Roots dont like hot ground. Water evaporates faster too. Mulch shouldn't be touching the trunk.

  4. Mulch kills trees. Best is not to have any mulch. I have tons of fruit trees I have never put any mulch and all of my trees are very healthy

  5. No way you made a berm for a tree with mulch right?

    That trunk gonna’ be flakey and moldy in a few months…
