Landscaping

I’m a do it yourself hack, but I’m having a good time.

Hi guys and girls,

I'm one of those homeowners that the landscapers just love when they have to come and fix the work that the homeowner tried to do themselves. (Slightly kidding.)

But in all honesty, I love to do things myself, and me and the wife are building a flagstone patio with pathways to link up the garden. It is an undertaking. We rented an excavator and dug the subgrade shot in with a lazer, put in 10mm rock crush, and puzzled the flagstone peices in. Right now i'm in the process of tightening up the joints and getting better fits with a 7 inch grinder.

What are some tips to get a tighter fit? We plan to use sub 10mm crush to fill the joints. In retrospect I would have done more research on how to make the joints more esthetic, and not to run them so long, but at this point its hard to go back and swap out the stones to keep the joints from running so long.

For all the pros out there, what are some tips and advice that you'd give to this layout? Should I go bavk and try to fit new stones in to not run the joints so long? We plan to cut the edges as well.

There's also a whole new section that we haven't even started excavating yet, so the fun will continue!

Any advice on the stone fitting, or other tips that you’ve leatned through the years will be greatly appreciated 🙏

And hats off to stone workers. It’s a super cool skill/trade/craft that I wish we had more knowledge in.
