Lithops

Lithops help

Hello got my first Lithops (I posted about the previously) and this is what I did. But now that I’ve been seeing different posts on Reddit I’m thinking i should move them into their own separate homes by each kind? How do I know which ones need watering? I don’t quite understand how these work and had no idea they were not like a typical plant lol

I see that you have one that’s splitting. I prefer to seperate splitting Lithops since they DO NOT need water whilst doing that (since it gets its nutrition from the old leaves). The others are fine and healthy. If you want, you can seperate them by species but I already love this pot of your diverse species.

They also need to be watered by seasons. Here’s my summarized cycle, please feel free to research.

•Winter – dormant, sheds leaves, no water
•Spring – (if it’s done splitting) gradually introduce water, ensure to maintain wet – dry method where when you water, make sure that the soil is fully dried. Others say that soak your pot in water for a few mins till the surface is wet. And make sure not to wet the leaves. Water every 2-3 weeks
•Summer – dormant, do not water
•Fall – if your Lithops are old enough, it will flower. Water like spring

They need 4-6 hrs of morning sunlight, partial shade in the afternoon so it won’t get sunburned.

Nice substrate you got there. I assume that those are rocks? But I kinda see chips of wood. I recommend you to make your soil easier to withstand water so that it won’t be holding moisture for too long (they don’t like that, thus, it will cause overwatering, root rot, etc).

    Good luck!
